I know this isnt in the price range you specified, but for someone who wants good high quality pictures and alot of flexibility...
I use a canon Rebel XTi, a 580 ex II flash, an F4L 24-105 IS, an F2.8L 70-200 IS, and a 1.4X extender II. I love it... it is a great SLR setup.

I have a 3 year old Konica Revio that has a nice zoom and is capable of 15 second videos (click here to see a review when it was new). Not quite pocket size but a little bigger than a regular cell phone. Has a rechargable battery and slots for both MS and SD cards. To off-load pics and videos you can either plug the camera direct to a PC via a USB cable or pop the cards out and insert them into a card reader slot.

Since I purchased the camera Konica bought out Minolta. I don't know if the Konica brand is still out there in new retail but there should be a comparable Minolta model in the line-up.
