Ok,

How do you folks do it  I'm talking about the way your cars shine, I take very good care of my car and wax it often, but I don't get the shine that Lowbrowser, Tumarr, Hank51 and many others get. Your cars look like they're covered in glass.

I currently use Zymol, I clean the car throughly, and wax it by hand and orbital buffer, and I get a pretty good shine, but no where near as shiny as you guys   I can't believe a wax that cost a few hundred bucks can really make that much of a difference. Or can it ?

The shine generally comes from the polish...the wax gives it protection. Many show cars that never see inclement weather never get waxed, only a high grade polish.

I've never used Zymol, but have heard many good things about it. I use Griot's Garage Best of Show Wax and found it to be the best I've ever used. It makes the paint finish look a foot deep. Prior to it, I used Mequiar's Gold Class and as good as I thought it is, the Griot's is better. I still have some Mequiar's left, and continue to use it on my daily driver until it's used up.

There's a lot of good polishes and waxes on the market, and I certainly haven't tried that many, so I can only talk about what I've tried. I do still use natural carnauba based waxes as no matter how hyped the new polymer based products are, I still believe the natural products are better.

The secret to any good shine is...........PHOTOSHOP! LOL!!!!!!
Vincruiser is just jealous! (just kidding). I was told mine got an extra clear
coat over the original paint a few years ago. If that doesn't work, the
"sharpen' filter does wonders!

Thanks guys,

No matter what you're using, even if a little trick photography is used your cars look great  I'll search for a "polish", remove the old wax, clean & polish, and then apply the wax. Sounds easy enough. Hopefully, when I get it repainted, I'll get a couple of extra coats of clear, and hope I get a shine like you guys.

let's see .......... recently repainetd with a couple of clear coats, real sunny day, Meguiar's and photoshop.  yep, that about covers it.  never tried Zymol.  I think because of the cost, don't remember.  maybe some day I'll try it.  looks great on Gunslinger's cars.

one thing about my car is, I think it is the camera that helps out alot but also the paint job in the photo was less than a few months old. Since this is a well done paint job it looks very different from a oem black paint job because it has a lack of "orange peel" in the paint. Look at a brand new black C-6 vette and look closely at the paint. it will look like the skin of a orange with little bumps all over. my paint is alot smoother than that and really helps adding that depth to the paint job. My hood looks like your looking into a calm black swimming pool. I have been told a paint job like that even if its the correct color will never pass bloomington gold standards because its "too nice". Keeping it clean and the dust off it is a battle I usually lose and give up when at shows. Its so hard because black shows everything. I would need to run the duster on it every 5 minutes at an out door show. So I just drive it up at a cruise in, dust it once and go enjoy the show.Tumarr38498.4383564815

My 2 cents BUT a REALLY BIG 2 cents...  When I got my 81 it was a solid 3+ cosmetics car.  I used Mequires clay bar then I used there 3 stage cleaner/polish/wax.  All done by hand, no real elbow grease involved.  It took about 2 hrs total.  Car is a SOLID 2 now.  The shine is 2 feet deep.  I normally dont "endorse" anything.  This stuff is the real deal and worth the extra cake.  BTW, I used Zymol.  This BLOWS it away.  Kevin.

I've been using Meguiars products forever...top quailty stuff. I put a coat of their new NXT polish On the Vette and it pulled one helluva shine out of that old paint
