That's just a rumor. Here's the facts.

The Truth about Cell Phones and the National Do Not Call Registry

If you’ve received an e-mail telling you that your cell phone is about to be assaulted by telemarketing calls as a result of a new cell phone number database, rest assured that this is not the case. Telemarketing to cell phone numbers has always been illegal in most cases and will continue to be so. In response to recent e-mail campaigns urging consumers to place their cell phone numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry, the Federal Trade Commission and Federal Communications Commission issue this advisory to give consumers the facts.

One e-mail making the rounds says:

“JUST A REMINDER...In a few weeks, cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls. YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS... To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888/382-1222. It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years. PASS THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS...”

OK, but what about auto dialers that just go through all the numbers until someone answers? They don't need to know your name to try to sell you something.

Has this happened to anyone?

It's the intent that is important. You meant well. Thanks for thinking of us.

There is a loophole in the Do Not Call registry: the regs do allow businesses with which you have a relationship (your bank, for example) still to call you, even if you've signed onto the registry. Any of their subsidiaries can too (like an insurance company affiliated with the bank). So it's not 100% bulletproof from unwanted calls--unfortunately.

767Rep, I have the same problem with stuff from my mom.  I always check truthorfiction.com and go to search with anything she sends me.  She is getting better, she does check now that I have sent her about a dozen corrections.

I agree with those above, thanks for thinking about us and keep on keepin' us in mind!

YOU control that loophole tho'.  Look a little closer and you will see that the only way they can call your cell phone is:
 - IF you have given them permission to call the cell phone
 - or if it is your only phone.

Also by telling the business not to share your contact information with other division/subsidiaries or organizations they partner with will limit the solicitation calls you get.  Then the only valid reason they have for contacting you is for service calls or returning calls you have initiated.

Putting cell phone numbers in an auto-dialer is also against the law.
