Jim, to clarify: I was referring to land lines, not cell numbers. You're right about being able to notify/request that your contact information not be shared. My only point was that unless someone does that, they remain 'vulnerable' to sales calls to their land line from businesses with which they have a relationship.

You're right about the land lines.  But, if you call the business or visit their website you should be able to set your preference to not be solicited.  And if they're worthy of your business they should honor your request.
 
I've worked in the privacy area of a major financial institution for almost five years now and it has been a challenge to keep up with all the legislation coming out at both the state and federal levels.  Believe me, the marketeers are scrambling to find ways around everything and the lawyers and legislators are scrambling to keep ahead of them...!!!

Hi Dan ! From our experience, it was a salvation. Doesn't stop all, but then Politicians know no bounds, and a couple others have figured out the loopholes. Compared to my phone at work ( that gets pummeled w/solicitations) it's a blessing bro. Can't be bad.
