Sounds like the old "SPYWARE" bugaboo...btdt...
Do what Brian suggests, then get you some good AV/AS software. Check out THIS THREAD from MY last escapade!!!
There are several 'puter gurus on this forum. They will steer you right! I haven't had one single problem with spyware/virus since I got this new 'puter, and installed the recommended software. Good Luck!

after disk cleanup make sure you defragment your hard drive. good idea is get a program like pc pitstop. it cleans a lot of things out you dont need and also tweaks the settings for network (cable modem).

A friend suggested this antivirus program to me, it's free and it picked up a bunch of crap that even my subscription software missed:

Also this is the BEST anti-spyware software I've used, also free:

The Grisoft is AVG, which is one of the programs I have. They just put out an updated version, AVG 7.5, and it is still FREE.
Also, they have AVG Anti-Spyware, which is very good, and only partially free. You can still download it, but after the "trial" period, some of the features will be dis-abled.(unless you buy it) It's still a good program, even then.

The Ad-Aware, is absolutely great! It has also been updated. I have installed these programs on several "work" computers since I did my new one. It's amazing the stuff these programs can ferret out!

Spybot is a very effective spyware tracker and blocker.  I run both it and ad-aware.  I was amazed at what one caught that the other missed.

www.spybot.net  is the site and it is free.

DO NOT use spyWAREbot.  It loads a bunch of crap along with the download.

In case you missed it on the other thread, I use (and now so does Joel) Mozilla Firefox for my browser.  You won't get all the crap ads and stuff you get with Internet Explorer or Netscape.

www.mozilla.com  It is free and they also have a mail variant called Thunderbird, also free that is much better than Outlook.

Of course, you can always use the mail here!

dnv is right, I've always used Ad-Aware to remove syware until the Geek-Squad at Best Buy told me Spybot was better.  Well after using Spybot, Ad-Aware still find stuff hidden.  So I use both.

You can also got to Start > Internet > Brouse History > Delete > and delete all the temporary internet files that are saved on your computer. I clean this out atleast once a week.
