The analogy presented is truly a model for what is actually happening to this country. Everytime I read about these protests I think about the military men and women who have fought for this country though generations. I think about them putting themselves in harms way to preserve the American way of life. It is, or at least was, a unique way of life. I consider myself somewhat knowledgable of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. I never recall reading that America was required to accept illegal immigrants with open arms.

The recent Immigration Bill died in the U.S. Senate. Just as well since it did not address the real problem, that being it did nothing to relieve the pressure of the illegals already here. Regardless of what he liberals are saying, the illegals are a drain on State budgets and the health care system.

I don't have a clue how this will resolve itself but If the average citizen doesn't at least notify there leaders that they are no longer going to stand for the status quo then nothing will ever change.

I was really surprised to hear the news that the Immigration bill was defeated in the senate. That bill would have cost the taxpayers 7 trillion dollars and in my opinion was a slap in the face to immigrants like my wife that came here legal.

My wife came here from the Philippines in 2002. Counting the cost of her visa to get out of the Philippines and all the filing fees for Homeland Security forms here, we have spent over $3000. It has been a very frustrating experience dealing with  the Homeland Security bureaucracy. We did everything by the book and she still hadn't received her green card after 4 years. I finally got my congressman involved and it's hard to believe what he found out. Her green card had been mailed out 3 years earlier, only to be returned to the Texas Service Center as "undeliverable" and it was destroyed. I've been at the same address since 1985...go figure. I guess all is well that ends well, since she has now filed for her citizenship before that fee goes up to $600 in July.

Another thing that bothers me, illegals driving. Every day, i see them. You can tell the illegals by the way they drive off freeway, trust me. Consider this: They have no fear of entering illegally, and if they can afford a car, they will get one. Why? Simple, if caught, all they will do is get deported, same as if they don’t drive. Since they are illegal, they don’t have driver licenses, and thus, don’t have insurance either. Like a lie, one illegal act leads to another until there is a web of activity. I would love to see a study done about how many illegal activities these illegal immigrants engage in, along with one that shows how much just those driving without insurance due to illegality are actually costing us citizens.

George Carlin's answer to immigration

Bush wants us to cut the amount of gas we use. The best way to stop using so much gas is to deport 11 million illegal immigrants! That would be 11 million less people using our gas. The price of gas would come down.

Bring our troops home from Iraq to guard the border. When they catch an illegal immigrant crossing the border, hand him a canteen, rifle and some ammo and ship him to Iraq. Tell him if he wants to come to America he must serve a tour in the military. Give him a soldier's pay while he's there and tax him on it.
After his tour, he will be allowed to become a citizen since he defended this country. He will also be registered to be taxed and be a legal patriot.

This option will probably deter illegal immigration and provide a solution for the troops in Iraq and the aliens trying to make a better life for themselves.

If they refuse to serve, ship them to Iraq anyway, without the canteen, rifle or ammo. Problem solved.

The real crime is the idiots in Washington keep trying to create a way to reward the Illegals, our Politicians forget that we don't need any new laws, all they have to do is enforce the ones already on the books.

Folks, if anything, you have to keep contacting your Representative, thats whats been keeping the BS bill from becoming law. They can't ignore the fact that we're pissed.

Have you ever walked around in Mexico? In the Phillipines?  --  I mean when you were sober and not stumbling from one bar in Cancun to another.  Smile

Did you look around?? It's depressing as Hell on the streets of Tiajuana. You or I would want to get out of there, too.

Yes, I am a native born American. But why does that accident of birth make me "better" than someone born in Latin America??

Yes, my father fought in WWII before I was born. But I did nothing to earn the great gift of living in America. And ALL of my grandparents were born in Germany.

Am I gratfull to be an American citizen?? Yes, I am.  --  But it is an accident of birth.

If you or I had been born in Mexico or El Salvador, or Haiti, I suspect we would do anything, legal or not, to come to America if it meant an opportunity to provide a better life for our kids.

I know damn well I would.

Wouldn't you??

Hmmm....I don't consider being born in Texas, USA an accident...my ancestry goes back to the founding fathers of this country.
I also, have never served in any military branch.

I have no desire to go to Mexico, or anywhere else. If I want to see how "bad" people from Mexico live, all I have to do is drive down the street, and try to not run over the trash, mostly beer cans/bottles/cases they throw in the street, and dodge bullets, and their small children that they allow to wander out in the street.
I am expected to live by the laws of this state, and the country...why are illegals not expected to do the same?
If I kill a cop...I get the death sentence.
If an illegal kills a cop(and they do here almost DAILY), they may get deported, and allowed to return with no fear of punishment.
Does it suck that the living conditions of other countries may not be a decent as they are in America? Sure, but that's not an valid excuse to be lawless in this country. The lifestyle they are supposedly trying to get away from, they carry on here...it's just that I have to pay for it, while they send their money back to the country they don't like...

my "rant" is over...
