Like many communities up north, the Labor Day weekend is the traditional end of summer, even though there are many good weeks of great weather left.
Kids are heading back to school, pools are being closed and the cottagers are having one last party.
The Native Americans take this time to thank the Creator for a plentiful season and good harvest.
Around all the Finger Lakes, the cottagers light road flares on the beach, so from above, it looks like a Ring of Fire.
At the south end of the lake near me, Canadaigua (Seneca Indian name meaning Chosen Spot), at the top of Bare Hill (sacred Seneca land), a large bonfire is lit by the Senecas at 9:00 PM to signal the lighting of the flares and release of fireworks.
It is quite a show.
Here is a little slideshow of last night's fire. Maximize your screen for full effect.

Thats cool! I did not know about the fire/flare thing. I used to go to Senaca Lake for vacation for may years and never heard of it. Of corse I was never there on Labor Day week end.
Have fun
