For those of you who have been following the banter of the "what engine do I have " thread, notice the interchangability/use of some if not most of the parts.
Some of you know that I have an early (62) 327 in my '72. When I made this conversion I had to figure out how to mount the alternator because the earlier engines, I believe '67-down have no accessory holes in the heads. Off to the junkyard....found a '62 Impala (ironic, huh Jim, but this was 1987) It has the "ear" on the drivers side exhaust manifold with a bracket that bolts to it and the alternator mounts to the bracket. I took all the parts needed, manifold and two brackets. Fit on my car was perfect. About a year and a half ago, I was getting ready to change the exhaust on my car and was researching different systems. I was going through catalogs and saw that 62-65 Corvettes use the same set up. No wonder it fit so well. Anyway, the bracket that mounts the alternator was $40-55.00, depending on vendor. Out of curiosity, I looked at some Impala catalogs...same part- $35.00. Also, when I did change the exhaust, I found the right manifold was cracking. Had another from a '63 Chev p/u in the garage. The number also interchanges with '62-63 Corvette. Check the catalog prices and you'll get the picture.
The point is, don't let anyone take advqntage because its a "Corvette" when the interchange can save you money. There are a lot of parts I cross check, always have, but if in doubt, it can be worth it to check......

Reid,

I'm glad you found that impala engine in the junkyard. Without it, I might never have known what that "S" stood for.Big%20smile Thanks to you and Joel for all your help in identifying the engine in the impala. Thumbs%20Up
