Crazy out there. Checked out a couple of prices this evening and holy cow, it's over $3.50 for premium in Texas.

Cost me $20 to fill up my old Garbage Can Green '67 Bug up... What the Hell??? Is this extra cost to cover the war in Iraq and then boost it up some more to pay for the cost of the damage left by Katrina?? I don't get it...

[/QUOTE] Damage to 9 oil refineries and drilling platforms. No electricity to use the pipeline from the Gulf to the Northeast.Higher prices & less being sent from OPEC.Our refineries in the USA arent equipped to process the heaviest crude that IS available & more of it. Stricter emissions guidelines that refineries are now building new units to allow them to meet those guidelines.I work in refinery maint. as a craftsman  PS..Oy,yeah! And China is growing into the industrial & car owning age at a super fast rate, with fast increasing users of fuel, therefor taking more of the available world supplies...supply & demand...more demand, higher costs on available supplysC3RVETTE38598.4318402778

Vette(s): Silver '81 mostly original C3. Silver interior, bilstiens, big sway bars, headers.
C3RVETTE,

We have unleaded 91 octane (which we call regular) and
unleaded 96 octane (which we call super.)

I have jest been out this morning and topped off the
beast's tank with 96, which is now $NZ7.15/gallon
which is $US5.00 per gallon !!

What I can't understand is that my '81 has a computer
thingy, why doesn't it know to automatically use less
fuel when it gets more expensive ?????

CeeDee you have to train your computer. Try offering the Blue Oval or Star as a treat. Vettes are smart and shouldn't take to long to figure out what you want.

C3RVETTE

I was in China last year on business and they are growing (industry wise) at an incredable rate. Which means they are consuming a lot of resources and driving up the cost of raw materials.

C3RVETTE,

Scalded computer as instructed, boiling water ran everywhere, made no differencde to gas mileage

SUNCOUNTRY,
Please send over Blue Oval or Star, treat obviously needed as C3rvette's advice did not work. Very happy to reimburse you $US3.50 / gallon

I have also received local advice. Apparently if I only drive the vette downhill this will greatly improve gas mileage. I will test this theory today (under laboratory conditions of course) and report back...

I never thought of just coasting downhill, but do you have to hook up to a chain to get hauled up & start again, like a roller coaster?
