Tailgaters really really bother me! A LOT! I'm in a classic muscle car, I have a bad driving record, i sure as hell am not going to speed. If I get a ticket for 10 over the limit I lose the car. NOT COOL. But what is even less cool is when I have it pegged at 55 and there are 4 OTHER lanes that are OPEN and some
in a little Passat Wagon thinks that he belongs about 18 inches from my rear bumper!!!!! NOT COOL! The worst part is that when i finally got fed up and moved into the passing lane to let him pass me on the right he was one of those "people" who have daytime running lights, and assumes that because he can see so can everyone else. I'm writing a letter to congress this week because people like him are downright dangerous!! Daytime running lights are helpful. But they only turn on the headlights, NOT the taillights. When you are running at night or inclement weather not having taillights is VERY dangerous. How stupid can people be!? The thing about inclement weather is that in MD and VA(to my knowledge) it is illegal to be driving with windshield wipers on and lights off. Problem is that when people have daytime running lights they assume that their taillights are on, and that they can be seen, when in reality a grey car on a rainyday with only daytimerunninglights on is damn near invisible. And before i got the Vette I almost splattered a couple of people without taillights on but they had headlights showing once i passed them. FREAKING RIDICULOUS. Unnerving as well. ANYWAY, anyone who wants a copy of the letter to send to their congressman send me an e-mail or somethin, and I'll probably need help making the letter sound rational and having it make sense! =)

That's strange,
We've got a 99 Corolla, and that has daytime running lights... However, when it's dark outside, it turns all the lights on... I was under the impression they made those systems idiot proof. But I guess someone just makes a better idiot out there

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
I think that some of the original daytime running lights only worked the headlights, although they were very dim. They could help you forget to turn on lights. Both of my cars have automatic headlights, and taillights. My Chevy Trailblazer has auto everything, Headlights, mirrors, radio, windshield wipers, seats, etc. It has a mind of its own. Some of the auto stuff is ok, but can you imagine the headaches when they screw up? I have often wondered how the wipers know it is raining..

My parents have a '00 Camry with the running lights that seems to know when its dark out, but i've seen quite a few people with only headlights in really bad weather/at night. Very Vexing, dangerous too.

Dale,
I guess I will have to go out and pull out a rear lamp to verify this, but I REALLY think you should have gotten some type of indication your lamp is not working. I think either your inside dash indicator will either blink very rapidly, turn on and not blink at all or it will not light. If you don't get some type of indication of trouble, maybe you have something else wrong.

That's what I thought it was supposed to do too. But it kept blinking inside, the front light was blinking, but the back was just lit up. Its working now though.
