I pray no-one had family or friends hurt by this tragedy ... my daughter graduated from Tech a couple years ago... and it has hit her pretty hard... a lot of pride at that school... I'm not an Alum but have always felt like one while she was there... Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to tham all! As Nikki Giovanni said...We will prevail!

My heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones at VA Tech, this really puts a fear in any family who has a son or daughter away in college like I do I'm sure.

Its an absolute tragedy!  I graduated in '04 and yesterday it really started to hit me because I was in the college of engineering and had classes in all of those classrooms.  I also had Professor Librescu for one of my classes, sounds like he was quite a hero!  Attending VT and living in Blacksburg for 5 years was an amazing time for me.  I only wish it could have been the same for the 32 killed and all of those there now for that matter.  My sympathy goes out to all the families, students, staff, and faculty.

My closest friend and my best man when I got married has a son in the Tech Corps of Cadets, an older daughter who graduated from Tech two years ago, and daughter graduating high school who will be attending Tech this coming year and an ex-wife who works for Tech. Needless to say he was and is quite traumatized even knowing his family is OK. His kids are like nieces and a nephew to me.

His son was an acquaintance of Matt LaPorte, the Cadet who was killed.

Because of his kids it seems I'm personally invested in this tragedy more than I might be otherwise. I can only imagine what the families who lost loved ones must be feeling.

When I was a police officer and dealt with crime scenes and injured people and more, I was always able to do my job as I would simply go into a "cruise control" mode to do my job and not be personally involved. This time it involved those I know and love, even though they're OK. It's different...it's personal this time.

When I was working, I always knew I had to be prepared if a situation demanded I have to drop the hammer on someone, though I am happy I never had to. This is a case where if I was in the position to do so, I would have done so with no second guessing and no remorse. That sounds cold and also in hindsight, but it's the way I feel.
