Can you give us a bit more information? Not sure what you are talking about, unless it's an hour meter on a tractor or something similar.

Most engines have cycle time that is represented in hours. Runtime hours are tracked for maintenance purposes. This is common for fleet service.
If your question is in regard to the runtime hours you might consult your local GM service center for a breakdown. However most automobile manufacturers utilize miles as the maintenance factor for the general public due to the fact that it is more easily calculated in conjunction with the speedometer.

Ya my 2007 Avalanche measures hours also, might be a new way GM is using on tracking the hours an engine has been run.

Well that makes more sense Jody. You see boats track hours because it is the easiest most accurate maintenance measurement.
It gives better data because it is based on real time hours while the engine is running. That is as long as this is the hour meter is original to the engine or any change has been noted if the gauge has been replaced.
If you place the hours into relationship of normal boating time 8-10 hours and divide it by that factor it should give you a pretty good indicator as to how much trip time on the water the vessel has seen.
Another added bonus would be the service records to research maintenance records and how frequently they were being preformed in relationship to the hours.
Hope that helps.....

And in reality, 200 hours on any engine is not excessive by any means.
You can base your oil changes and/or service intervals, including tune ups based on hours of operation. For the interval look at the manual for the engine.
