I work in the city and I realized I left my sunglasses on the seat of my truck and they are pretty nice ones so I went to get them because I didn't want anyone to break a window and take them. So I was on my way out to get them and saw a guy looking in a car window. When he saw me he started walking away, but as I walked by he turned around and walked back to the car. When I got to my truck (30 - 40 yards away) I turned around to see him sticking something between the window and he popped the lock. By the time I got my glasses and something else out of the back and turned around, he was already walking in front of the car and wrapping the stereo up in his hat. Walking back to my building I got within 20 feet of him as we were walking over a bridge and I saw him look at something else he grabbed from the car that he didn't like because he dropped it into the water below. I felt so bad because usually I have my cell phone with me, but I left it up in my office. I was hoping a cop would drive by because they usually do, but none did. So he just walked away. Its crazy and now that I saw that I really want to get some added protection for my truck.

I dont blame you, that is spooky. Did you call the police to report it? You could probably give them a good description of the guy. He may be a know perp of this type of crime. I hope that you go out tonight to buy protection for your truck. If you dont already, you may want to carry some personal protection as well, like mace.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
I am retired now, but I used to work for a company that manufactured products for guys like that. Winchester Ammunition. Nuff Said!!!

What an awful thing. Too bad you didn't have your phone with you. Say, does the lot that your truck is in have cameras? I just wonder if that would help any. Did you contact the patrol that's usually there yet? Might tell them so that they can patrol more. That dude might come back. Get that alarm for your truck and you!

My lot has no security. I was talking to other guys in my company and a few of them have had their cars broken into as well. I'm not too worried about someone braking into my truck and stealing something, but I am worried about someone stealing my truck and taking that. I'm looking into making a switch to cut the fuel system. That way they won't get far if they ever tried.

I know what I'm going to do. I am going to install an ignition kill switch, like my son did on his truck. That thing makes you think the battery is dead... All it is, is a neutral kill switch. Works great. Even if they break the ignition switch, they still can't start the car, unless they find the kill switch... You can hide that anywhere...

I've got a kill switch in my MR2. Actually, the PO used to live in south Florida... not a great place for a flashy sporty type of car. He said that on his first MR2, it got stolen 3 times!! On this MR2, he just put in a kill switch, and even though the car has been broken into a couple of times, it's never been stolen. One time they even tried, his steering column was busted by them, but they didn't get it. I've seen a couple of great places for a kill switch, one is the cig. lighter, where you have to push it in to disable the kill switch. Best thing about that is that after you start the car, the lighter will automatically come out, "engaging" the kill switch again so you don't have to remember to pull it out again. I've also seen it where the driver's side seatbelt has to be plugged in. I've seen a kill switch on the wipers, but I imagine that must get annoying. Basically anything electric can have a kill switch put into the ignition from it. Mine has a very well hidden button which is easy to get to, but realllllllllllllly hard to find.

I'm really interested in putting a kill switch in my truck. I don't want an alarm because 1) I can't afford it and 2) I've heard so many alarms going off that it seems nobody pays attention to them anymore. If you guys have any info on how to do it I'd really appreciate it.

I just found a how to for my truck. I'll be doing that as soon as I can. Its a nice security mod and only at the price of a cheap switch.
