Sorry to hear about you losing your job, It just happened to me also.

GE bought us out last Aug. and now they decided to close my office and move everything to NY state. So as off Sept. 29 I will be unemployed also.

Lets hope we both make out OK in the end

Dave

In case you don't know who I am, I had Breakfast with you and your wife on Sat. morning in PF.

Dave, I absolutely remember having breakfast with you and JimG!! Sorry to hear you will be out looking, too. Good luck to you!

Mark, and everyone else that has suggested I start me own business...been there...done that. I had my own shop before I moved to the Dallas area 20 years ago. It was in West Texas, but when the oil industry took a dump in the late '80's, it killed me. That's when I got on the tractor and drove up hea...
I don't have the kind of cash to do that, and survive for the 3 years or so it would take to be profitable. One day, tho...

I did come away from the interview today with a good feeling. They want me to go to one of their other shops tommorrow, and Friday, so they can see if I can do what I say I can. They will pay for me to do this. I don't think they would have offered this if they weren't serious about bringing me on-board.
The bad news is, I got a friggin speeding ticket on the way out there today!

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.

Any reason you couldn't find a speed shop and specialize in racing transmissions or some such?  Seems to me a good trans man should be able to make his weight in gold just on word of mouth alone.  Especially when you can pretty much diagnose problems from descriptions alone.

Either way, cong's on the interview, I'll keep fingers crossed that you are all you say you are, and keep the foot off the floorboard next time you're feeling good about yourself!

I really don't even know, now.
They said they were trying to create a new crew at this particular shop, and would call me Monday. The guys at the other shop(in GREENVILLE!!! ) where I was yesterday and today were suitably impressed. I got them caught up for the week by 1:30pm today, so he paid me, and said I could head home if I wanted, since they had nothing else to do. So...I came home.

I still have to go tommorrow and try to gather enough help to move my toolbox from the other(former) shop. (Why did I have to have the biggest frigin box on the planet?)

Any takers? Wanna see what I'm up against? Click on the "See my Vettes & Toys" link, and go to page four...

Dang Joel...put that thing on a axle and a little larger tires and you could have a mobile transmission shop.
