I joined the Marines when we got back to the States after I finished high school.I didnt have to...I was my familys only son and was exempt from service,after my father was killed in SE Asia.He was career Navy. My mother was in the Coast Guard in WW2.http://www.virtualwall.org/dm/MartinHC01a.htm

Makes me feel good that some of this thread is positive about the younger generation. My youngest may not have joined the military, but he decided to get into Law Enforcement. He requested duty in the bad part of town. He wants to make a difference. He's already caught a bank robber and a "hero" that liked to assault women in parking lots(Officer of the Month for that one)! He's been bitten by a crack &*^%$. She went to jail too! Problem is the system let her out in 2 weeks!
There are some whiney spoiled kids out there, don't let them overshadow the good ones!
P.S. I did get drafted! Took an option and enlisted, no grumbling! |saluteflag|

There are quite a few kids that dont know anything about why they can do what they do these days,enjoying their many freedoms.Its because the kids of the past & present are doing what they're doing in Iraq right now.They are Marines,Army,Navy,Coast Guard,etc. |saluteflag|

the draft would never work in todays army, though there are some in washington who have already tried to reinstitute it and it ain't Bush or the republicans. It's amazing what these people try to do when they think your not looking. JOINED U.S.M.C. 1969 1972
