Had a good time last night at the game. First we got to the game and as we were walking up to get our tickets I could see the lobby was very crowded and it was going to be hard to get a ticket. A man in a suit steered us to the will call window and said we could buy there. Turns out we got front row seats and using my Food City shopping card got $2 off per ticket. Sweet. We are playing the first place team tonight and in the first period we blow it open. 5-0. I am thinking cakewalk. 2nd period we give up 5 and score 1. 6-5. 3rd period starts and they announce the winning ticket to the 50/50 drawing and it is my number. Woo Hoo!!! $106 in my pocket now. I come back to my seat and we score again. Before the game ended there were one or two little scraps on the ice. Lots of penalties and we win. 7-6. Everyone is happy.
I have been going to these games since 91 and love it. If you have a minor league team get out and take in a game. Lots of fun.

Seattle thunderbirds in the west coast hockey league. I live about a 2 1/2 hour drive away so I don't go to as many as I like to but I just ordered six tickets for a game the saturday after thanksgiving, my son will be home on leave from the navy and he really wanted to go. I am so pumped to go as the ole saying goes, I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out. Hockey rules.

Does minor league always do this good or is that the result of the NHL holdout? Minor leagues struggle attendance-wise down here. It's a shame.

We recently built an arena here in my area, and attracted the minor league franchise of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins games are always great to go to, and they were in the Calder cup finals last year. The playoffs were the best hockey I've ever seen. The series was against the Phila. Phantoms, and there was no shortage of action, and fights on the ice.
This season is the 6th year that the Pens. call us home, and the games never hurt for attendance. I'm thinking of even getting season tickets, when the kids get a little older.
GO PENS!!!

Knoxville has had a team off and on since 1988. I started going in 91. Our arena holds about 4400 people. Right now we are averaging around 2800-2900 folks. I think that is a pretty good sized crowd. Small place like this makes for some nice seating no matter where you set really. For me it has been great getting to know the game. I don't think the NHL has any bearing on our small league. Since I have been going, I can think of about 10 guys that have made it to the big league. None have been any major impact but you may remember the Manon Rheaume, the first woman to play in an NHL game. She played in Knoxville one year and attendance was the best it has ever been. She was a good looking woman also. I have this card signed somewhere around here.
I go to the Wichita Thunder every chance I get. They have the best record in the CHL at 10-2. Started out with an 8-0 record, but have slowed down some lately. Still it is a great sport and fun to watch, especially when they have their "extra activities"
They've also got some great team names, such as the Amarillo Gorillas, Austin Ice Bats, Shreveport Mudbugs and Odessa Jackalopes.

The difference between men and boys is the cost of their toys!!
Sometimes I follow some of the players when they leave Knoxville. Several have played in the CHL. As a matter of fact, Rosco Ruscowski was our coach several years ago. I believe he was coaching at Laredo and having pretty good luck with it.
Since my Wings are siting this season out I have been trying to get some guys to go. I have several options from around here. I sure we will get to some after the first of the year. Hockey, whats not to love?

I went again last night. That was the teams 5th home game in a row. They started the season off with 2 losses and 1 win in the first 3 games. Since coming home they have won 5 in a row and are now tied for 1st place. They have scored 33 goals in those 5 games and are on a tear. Cellar to stellar, but the season is still young and there are a lot of games left. I took some pics and may try to put them on my photobucket account if anyone is interested.
