Hi,
My daily driver has 130,000 miles on it. Last oil change I had "Max" oil put in. This oil is for cars with over 85,000 miles on them. Supposedly, compression is improved by this oil. I have never trusted "valve-job-in-a-can" additives. Is this stuff any good, or should I stick with regular oil?
Thanks,
Tom

It's not a bad thing. The oil has extra additives to help it improve it's strength in regards to holding a oil film in stress areas. In reality, you can do the same thing with heavier oil. But heavier oil does not flow the same into bearings, etc. So this oil is a bit of a stop gap between two points.

That's not bad. In fact it can help, within limits. I'm not conviced it's worth the extra cash. Perhaps in some engines it is. Personally I just use a good quality oil. But actually, that's what you are doing. This varies depending on brand of course.

It can't hurt you, and it might help.

I have been using the Valvoline Max Life 10W30 down here in south Florida since I bought this 79 L82 with 59K miles. Has it done any good ? Dunno. I have been using Valvoline in cars and trucks for many years. If the technical research and manufacturing has been put into MaxLife like they say, I figure it can do more help then harm.
I will not put synthetic in an older car, as I think you would be asking for trouble. |saluteflag| |cool|
