All right, so I know I've been pretty quiet lately. I've been through a lot, all good, and the smoke is starting to clear.

The great news is that after 7 months, I'm picking up the vette today!! The engine and trans are complete, as well as the entire braking system. I can't wait for the first drive. I'll post pics tomorrow, as well as give some info about what was done.
The next thing is that I'm leaving the great state of Texas this weekend.
I know, I know, I'll still be a Texan at heart.

Now for the big news: I'm moving to Bismarck, North Dakota! I have family and friends in the area. It will however, be my first experience with having to store a vette during the winter. No more year-round trips for me!
So goodbye Texas, and hi to North Dakota! Anyone up in that area? Hit me up with some info of clubs, drives, etc.
I've read about the Reno trip next year and I will make this one. The vette is done and I will be there.

I traveled Interstate 94 which cuts right through the middle of North Dakota on my way to the 2006 gathering in Tennessee. We spent the night in Bismarck, the scenery was very nice of course a weather front was moving in and stalled in Minnesota so we planed to stay behind the weather so we spent the night.. The next day there was flooding in the direction we were heading so we dropped down south on Interstate 29 through South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa to Missouri. The roads were very nice and clean, I'm sure you'll enjoy ..If you go to the 2007 gathering you may travel I-94 to I-15 to I-80 into Reno. It will be a great run during the summer..I look forward to meeting you..
Sorry you're leaving the great state of Texas..Storing the Corvette for the winter is not bad if done right..It makes the car last longer and your love for the car grows more, then you'll take care of it more..I do anyway..Terry

I use a battery tender so the battery stays charged,( you can take the battery out), fuel stabilizer, I will use this for the first time this year, The vehicle is in a dry heated garage with a cover. I have a set of jack stands but I plan to enter the car in a winter car show so I will leave it on the tires until after the show. The car has been completely serviced, I took the wheels off to check the brake pads and lubed all the chassis points. I have no problems with little furry animals making a home inside so I don't do anything there. Don't know about your area. I lay absorbent pads under the car so I know if a leak develops and where its at, even through I constantly check and tighten all hoses and fittings, wipe down the oil pan and flywheel cover so if a leak is there I'll find it. If I lose power in the garage during the winter I then start the car and get it to engine running temperature and pump the brakes now and then. Some people say to use additive in your oil, I do not. I do replace spark plugs and fresh oil again before the next driving season. I'm sure their are others who will join in with what to do when storing your car for the winter. By the way this year a fresh coat of Wax before the cover goes on. Thats what I do..
P.S. I look under the cover once a week to make sure it's still there..

Thanks for the info Terry. I just drove the car for the first time in 7 months, and it was nice! Of course, it has to go into storage next week. I'll take your advice on what to do, and do as much of it as I can.
I looked at the route you suggested for Reno and it is the one I will be taking. I'm sure I can find some other vettes to hook up with along the way.

Dang Joel, why don't you just plan the party for after I move?? Wait a minute, you all ready are!!

I'm loading the vette on a trailer and driving out around 2pm Saturday, or else I would join you.
Sorry, but I kept telling you about needing to take a bath and all that. I just couldn't take it any longer.

Now that the vette is up and running, I'll meet up with all of you in Reno. I will give a heads up when I get to Bismarck, just to let you know I made it.
Have a good one down here for me!!
Here's a sneak peek at the new hood and engine. More will follow soon, along with all the details.
Welcome to the Upper Midwest...!!! Out of the "frying pan" and into the "freezer"...!!! Been through Bismarck many times trekking to Montana to visit our daughter. On the Member Search page use the zip code link and you'll find some folks nearby.
As far as the winter storage drill goes - what Terry said. Plus I lay down a sheet of poly to park each of the cars on. Serves as a vapor barrier to keep moisture from coming up from the floor and also collects anything that drips from them.
And be sure to give a shout when you venture over to the Mall of America. You'll pass within a few miles of my place as you're swinging around the west side of the Twin Cities metro area.
