For those of you that checked out the 1923 model -t ford pick up truck body golf cart that I got for my daughter with a disablity, I am trying to make it into some kind of promotion, sales, specail event  business for her. (I'll post the link to the pics for those that want another look, page 4 & 5).  Here is what I need answer for:

The million dollar question is

it has an HITACHI STARTER/GENERATOR on the top it reads PART # 1427060200  GSB107-03  12V 9HP

i AM TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT TYPE OF OUTPUT WATTAGE OR WHATEVER YOU CALL IT.  NEED TO KNOW ABOUT WHAT I CAN DRAW OFF THE BATTERY AND STILL HAVE ENOUGH GOING INTO TO KEEP IT CHARGED.  God I hope this makes since to some one out there.  thank you for any and all answers, even the smart a** ones. there more than i have right now.  thanks to all Larry

Maybe the 9 HP is really 9 HP...in that case, this a BIG load for batteries. I can't remember exactly, but I think 1 HP is about 735 watts, so 9 x 735 = 6.6kw?? Must have huge batteries??? Not familiar with golf cart stuff......what are you doing with it other than driving it around??

You should borrow an amp probe from somewhere and clamp it around the each wire coming off the generator (while it's running). The highest reading will be your max output. Then you could check the amps that your lights use and subtract that from the total. Whatever else power is being used should also be checked and subtracted from the max. (like say ignition, horn, ect.) The remainder is available for other usage. Check the amperage draw of anything you want to add before  purchasing and stay below the max. Use the proper size fuse needed for additional items to protect the rest of the system from damage in the event of a pinched wire that grounds itself or things like that.
