I wish there was a perfect politician who could just do the job of running this country. And I know there is someone out there. Unfortunately, they just don't have the money or backing to even think about running. What a system huh?
cilrah, I agree with you about old Ronnie Reagan. But he did something to us vets during his term. I just recently found out that some of us who don't have any service related injuries, cannot go to the VA hospital due to we make to much money. Back when I enlisted I was told that I could utilize the VA hospital after I retire from the military. Well I registered myself in the VA hospital system after I retired and was told I make to much money and I can't use the VA. Ain't that a bite in the arse. Due to some bill by Reagan. I hope Bonzo is doing some nasty things to him right now.

I did not vote because of the selections. I am registered as an Independent also. I agree there should be 1 term for Presidency, whether it be 6 or 8 years i don`t know. but it would eliminate all the re-election crap for the person in office and keep the focus on the real issues. Maybe something positive could get acomplished.
I am a registered Republican, but I vote for the person who I feel will be most effective in doing their job, at whatever level of government they are elected.
LT-1 Larry- Are you running for office? You have my vote.

I find this whole thing quite fascinating, I just checked the looked vs. voted percentage, and its around 15% (just about the national average). The people who answered at about 8%.
In any group of people, about 10% are willing to do something, or "lead the way" so to speak, while the rest follow.
I understand the independant voter, believe me, but they have yet to have any real impact on the national level. Don't get me wrong, the numbers are growing, and I do respect their opinions, but the power base is just not there as yet. Is there a LOWER voter turn-out BECAUSE of independant, green party, etc., not being involved in the process? If you are a member of a party other than the "big two", why in Heavens name do you stay out of the process, instead of voting for a Dem or Rep who may lean your direction?
This is just all so interesting!
Thanks!!

ALTHOUGH i AM REGISTERED AN INDEPENDANT THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHERE I HAVE VOTED FOR ONE OF THE BIG 2. iN ORDER TO VOTE YOU HAVE TO ASSOCIATE WITH SOME PARTY. i LIKE TO KEEP THEM GUESSING.
You can see both sides of the mountain when you're standing in the middle, at the top. That's why I remain independent of either of the "Big Two". I'll vote for whom I think will do the least damage, Dem or Rep.
The kind of ego, and desire for attention (positive or negative) that you have to have to run for President, precludes anyone of real ability from taking the plunge. Thus, we will never have a President who can really run the country efficiently, effectively, with dignity and honor. The current lot of contenders are no exception. (IMHO)

I am registered undeclared. We can do that in Ohio. I vote for the best person, issue, etc. Parties not withstanding.
My students often ask who I vote for. I don't tell them. There is not enough time in class to cover those topics.
I'm alot like the majority here, I vote for the person I feel will do the best job unfortunately the pickens have been extremely slim for a long time. Besides who's tosay the one with the most money won't buy their way in, like they did the last election.
