My trusty ol' Mac is ready to bite the big one.
The hard drive is making a horrible loud noise. I've had it for 6 years and was hoping to get another 6 years out of it
but I guess that's asking for too much. Since I just spent big $$$ getting the tranny repaired in
the white princess, I don't have much $$$ to put toward another computer. I was hoping
to have a new exhaust system installed but I think a new computer might have to come
first. Any of yinz guys buy a computer from eBay? Just wondering...

No, but you could check out different computer vendor's websites for reconditioned ones. Also check out www.tigerdirect.com they have good prices on computers in their catalog
I personally have not purchased a computer off of Ebay, but my roommate did for a good price. The only thing is he's had trouble with it and I don't think he would do it again given the chance.

We usually get ours from Office Depot or CompUSA or the other big super stores when they have their $$ rebates, free printers and all the hoo-rah. :D I'm not so sure about the eBay idea. You might find an older (yet functional) one locally in your pennysaver for $100 or so if you're just looking for an interim cheap solution till you can get a real one. ;) I see them listed around here on occasion. ~Juliet

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I was a bit hesitant about buying a computer from eBay
and after reading your comments, probably won't go down that path. About the hard drive replacement, that was an obvious option that never crossed my mind. I'll have to look around
and see what I can find. Thanks a bunch guys....

MacMan,
Around here at least one of the local colleges(U. MD) has a store called Terrapin Traders that sells all of the school's old equipment, and they usually have a very good selection of Macs and Sun systems for around 30$. I know its been a while since you've posted, but it might be worth looking in to.

I decided against buying from ebay and getting a new computer. Bought a new 20gig HD and installed that. That was the cheapest way to go and I still have my trusty ol' Mac...

Hey guy, glad to hear that you are back online. I was talking to a friend who works on puters. He said Dell has a new program for a complete new PC for around $600.00.
