Ok, first off.... I had to write a paper for school on if today's current racial protection rules were applied back during slave days, and the revolution days if we could all get a long. I said no, jsut liek we all can't now. I believe in Chris Rock's philosophy there are two groups to every race whites: white trash, and white people. blacks: the 'N' word, and black people. THe first people in both of those groups are low-class people who feed off the system. I"m not a racist, I work with black people, I ahve blakc customers, black frineds, asain friends. Hell, my best friend, well he's like my big bro is peutorican, hes the one who actually sent me this link. He said: "This video makes me wnat to run off, and join the clan!" That was funny but now I'm pissed. In the artical it said that the black lady tried to get the white dude on racial remarks but all the witnesses said he never said anything. Yet, the court never pusshed the assault to a hate crime when they should ahve because the blakc ppl called hima  white mohter (expliteve deleted) now by my count thats racist... anyway enough of my rants heres the link:

Mark Jones of Akron was found guilty of felonious assault and sentenced to four years in prison for pounding on Joseph Scarpino.

Violent attack truly senseless

You're waiting for the justification.

You watch this videotape of the guy getting the snot beaten out of him in a pizza shop, and you're looking for some sign that maybe he deserved it, or at least did something -- anything -- that would suggest the beating made sense.

Strangely, you realize, you want there to be a reason the 6-foot-4, 320-pound man walked into the pizza shop at his girlfriend's behest and started wailing on a stranger.

That's a very strange thing, you realize -- to want a reason for this brutal act.

But the alternative is worse -- no reason at all.

And that's what it seems to come down to.

Last week, Mark Jones of Akron was found guilty of felonious assault and sentenced to four years in prison for pounding on Joseph Scarpino.

You know that meaningless cliche about ``senseless violence?'' This one sort of gives it meaning.

Look at the video. Scarpino was standing in line at DaVinci's Pizza in downtown Akron last July 31. It was 2:30 a.m. It was crowded. He was waiting for his order.

A woman, Prestina Sims, entered the shop and walked past the line to the counter.

Everyone understandsthat when there's a line, you take your turn. We don't like when this social contract gets broken.

Scarpino, who was on his cell phone with his fiancee, made some comment about this. Sims didn't like that, and unloaded verbally on Scarpino.

Despite her taunting, Scarpino held his tongue. A manager asked her to leave. She did -- and promptly returned with Jones.

She spit on the manager, then began screaming in Scarpino's face.

Most often in cases like this, there are two versions of the story and the truth lies somewhere in between. Not this time. Security camera footage eliminates that middle ground. It is not pretty.

Jones went straight for the face. His first punch appears to have nearly knocked out Scarpino. For the rest of the beating, Jones delivered half a dozen uppercuts to a doubled-over victim.

He broke Scarpino's nose, gave him a concussion, chipped a tooth and dropped him in a heap, where Jones tossed him around like a rag doll while looking for a dropped cell phone.

Scarpino's no small guy -- 6-foot-2, 220 pounds -- but Jones outweighed him by 100 pounds. Scarpino never got a punch in.

Maybe you'd feel better if there was justification. Sims' lawyer tried to create some. She said Scarpino, who is white, made a racial remark about Sims, who is black. But no witnesses -- and there were several -- confirmed this.

Jones tried, too. He said he believed Scarpino was going to hit the young lady. Yet Scarpino withstood Sims' verbal tirade without doing anything to escalate the confrontation.

Sims, in fact, made the first physical contact, repeatedly flicking Scarpino on the cheek before instructing Jones to ``take care of this white mother (expletive).''

So you're still waiting for the justification.

Because as ugly as all this is, there would be some degree of comfort in being able to say Scarpino deserved this.

But no matter how many times you replay the tape, it's just not there.

You've known the rules since you were old enough to understand. You get in line; you wait your turn. You get on the highway; you follow the rules. You sit in a movie theater; you keep quiet.

That's the social contract. You hardly notice when it's being followed, and you don't like when someone breaks it.

The beating of Joseph Scarpino is disturbing specifically because of the way it taunts that understanding. He got in line that night and followed the rules. Someone else broke them. And he got pummeled for it.

In civilized society, there are rules. One brutal violation proves their importance.

Ok, now who would have fought back? My friend says no. His dad and I say yes. If I was 21 I would ahve pulled my Degal out.... or did the tiger paws technique, and then head butted him with my knee, he would have been knocked out. See, his problem was he got scared and looked down at his cell phone so he couldn't prepare him self in enough time for the first crucial blow that broke his nose, and gave him a concussion. Plus what really amde me mad what that there was liek 10 ppl next to him,a nd liek 5 people behind the counter, they all could have ganged up on the black guy. Come on wheres the white respect unity? Who would Have helped? I would have.....

It's amazing what some people do.  And in this case I use the term in a very broad context.  They are barely human.

It's a good pizza shop.  I have been there.  It's only about 4 or 5 miles from my house.  It's been there a LONG time, and has a great reputation. I guess that makes it even more real for me.  Very sad.  As you might guess, this has gotten a lot of local press.  I hope they throw away the key on both of those animals.  Akron is really not that bad most of the time. It a decent city.  But there are always exceptions.  Cuyahoga Falls (home) directly to the north is actually very peacefull.  A similar scum murdered a friend of mine on New Year's Day early morning several years ago.  Tried to rob him at his home.  At least that slime got life.

Would I have fought back if I was there?  I have several times in the past. Different situations, but I helped defend someone that needed it.  Prehaps it was stupid of me to get involved, but I never got any serious injury. ( Got my glasses broken once. The person defended bought me a new pair. The attacker went to the hospital, and then to jail.)  I guess I have been lucky, but perhaps being on the side of right was the difference.  It has been many years ago.

The fact remains no matter what you think or say, you just don't know what you are going to do until the time comes.  I know, I have been there.  I can't blame anyone for staying out of it.  But it does make me sad.  Perhaps the next time, if ever, I will stay out of it.  I'm a bit older now.  I just don't know.

...Not sure how the laws out there work...and am not perfectly educated on the laws out here...but jumping to the aid of the down-trodden, the beaten, the brutalized...will land you in Jail too.  Or very easily can.  You can't call it self defence...and Jones can call it a hate crime, he can call it assault and battery he can call it any number of things...and it might just stick.  Even if I had a chance in heck of winning a fight with a malnourished midget...I wouldn't fight.

Well if someone gets pissed enough no matter height, weight, race, or whatever they can get real physical, real pissed, to the point where they can rip your head off with their bare hands, no matter if they have never been to the gym a day in their life, or the go twice a week. A person uses abou 10% of their muscle capibilities, even if you don't work out there still is about 90% more. I don't know if u guys know this. But there is a drug that is illegal and its called illy. Illy is comprised of weed, mehanol, ether, PCP, and phmeldahyde. If you smoke this drug jsut twice you muscles will have 100% full capbility all the time. I was watching a doctor ralka bout this drug. I got pissed at this kid in school I ripped the chair out from under him, and beat him with it unmercefully. This kid really pissed me of the past like 3  months, and I just took it out and unleashed it from him. Kids liek this is the reason why I do homeschool. Also, out here that would ahyve been legal if I shot him, for beating menew77guy38416.5037847222

what I meant in this statement: "Also, out here that would ahyve been legal if I shot him, for beating me" I meant if I was the dude inthe Video getting beat up, and it was in Vegas, it would have been legal for me to shoot him...

Ken, I have a feeling that regardless of age and current physical condition.............you would get in the middle again. Be careful though. I tried to stop a fight a couple of years ago between a couple of younger guys and woke up in the street with a very sore head!!!!!!

Add almost another 5 years.  Let me say, I do not like fighting.  I do not like violence.  I am a peacefull man.  I highly recommend anyone stay that way.  The times I did act there was danger to someone, or somthing that would have harmed someone.  I have always said I would stay out of it.  I did not think when I acted, I just did it.  I always said I would not, but I did.

I don't want anyone shot, beat, stabbed or hurt in any way.  I just don't want them to hurt someone else.

Louis, the ha ha is a bit out of line. What we are talking about is human decency.  Race, background, area, prejudice, really don't matter.  They are not, or should not be the issue.  Sorry, I see nothing funny in looking forward to violence or hate.

Perhaps you didn't know this.  I did not spend time in seminary.  So I do not compare myself to those who did.  I'm not. But I did have to do some amount of work to accomplish what I did.  I am a registered minister.  I can legally marry you in Ohio.  I'm registered with the State Of Ohio. While I don't really deserve that title, I do have it.  And it is an indication of how I feel and my beliefs.  True, I am first a mechanic, teacher, father and husband.  ( the last two come first) But the other is there.

Sometimes we cannot avoid the bad in life.  Nor can we try to not admit it exists.  It's there and we must deal with it.  Each in our own way.  The beat him with a chair "unmercefully" is the part that bothers me.  I'm not preaching, and I won't do that here.  Just put decency first.  Protecting the innocent is one thing.  Hating is another.

I know I have said before to reign yourself in some.  I think you need to do it some more, at least when you are here.  We are here because we all love C3s.  We are here to help each other, and respect each other.  Please leave the racisism, hate, etc at other sites.  Here be Corvette fan, and learn from others.  Share in a joy, not a hate.  That's what I do.  I'll shut up now.
