This is pissing me off too!!! ARGH!!!!!!!

Actually, I heard an interview with the moron who filed the suit, and he actually said that he was going to go after the money part first, but he knew that wouldn't happen, so he decided to pick on this instead because he wanted faster results. ALSO! This IDIOT started the case off by saying his poor daughter was offended by it, and now he says that he lied about that, and just used that to bring the damn thing to light.

No one is FORCING you to say the pledge. As long as you have your freedoms, don't complain! there are people out there in America, AMERICAN CITIZENS that are losing their rights because they're Arab or Muslim. AMERICAN CITIZENS that are getting beaten up, shot at, living in fear because of what they look like. That's what you should be fighting for. Not because our great country has "under GOD" in it's Pledge. It's a Pledge of ALLIEGENCE. If you don't want to pledge to this country, don't stop others from doing it. I think it's been long enough that to make the FEW happy, we have been sacrificing for the MANY. Time to put a stop to this PC garbage. It makes sense in certain cases where you have your liberties being harmed, then PC is appropriate, but not in just any case.

*SIGH*

On May 10, 2001 I got the handshake and the congrats from the Govt!!! Welcome to America!!

I am PROUD to say the Pledge and every time I hear the Anthem makes me feel a swell of Pride.
Hubby and I have discussed this...and he says that there I have a unique perspective...because I went thru so much to be here.
Believe me...it was worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and if I could find my saluting smilie with the flag I would post it!!!!!!!!!!

I think (and I'm sure you will all agree with me) that our freedom is taken for granted. We were born with it and have no idea what its like to be without it. If we did know what it was like to not have our freedom, we would have much more respect for everything and we wouldn't bicker over petty issues in every day life.

|cussing| |cussing| As a Vet and a proud American, I consider myself a very realistic and fair person, but this issue rips them all. What is this all about? I see that the judge has reconsidered his decision. I would venture a guess that he received some very threating remarks because of his decision. I would be in favor of tar and feathers for him and all like him. GOD BLESS AMERICA... LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT.

I would like to throw a couple cents into the ring also. Most people only see ( or hear ) what is plastered all over the TV or the newspapers because it is sensationalism. My wife teaches first grade. You would not believe some of the stories she tells me about how "politically correct" you need to be as a teacher. Holidays ( or just "special" days that I used to look forward to in school are basically not even mentioned in her school district. Halloween is not 'celebrated' due to different religious beliefs. Easter..same thing. Christmas, well, forget about it. Thanksgiving for some unknown reason is tolerated. I won't get into the pledge! A prayer or a monent of silence, well the moment stretches forever because it is not mentioned. I feel myself winding up so I better slow down. The policies are not being created or destroyed at high Government levels. Many of these decisions are being made at local school board levels. Our kids are getting started out way different than people my age did and they are doing nothing more than following the examples they get forced on them from the first day in school.....and trust me, it isn't the teacher's fault. They are there to educate, not to set policy, but to follow it.
Anyhow, my bet is, it will get worse...I don't see it getting back to the way it used to be. Sadly, these kids in school now are going to grow up to be our future leaders. That is about the only good reason I can have for being old...I won't be around to see it get worse.

This is really great reading peoples opinions here. That’s what America is all about. It’s even cooler that we all agree for the most part.

I think you are right when you say that too much time is being wasted with this. They can compromise and people can say anything they want in the place of “God” or say nothing at all. Like you said, I never had a teacher tell me I had to say it. We have much bigger fish to fry in this country right now. For the record, I am for separation of church and state and I do not go to church. I do however believe in a higher power. I can understand that some people feel uncomfortable saying God. I don’t.

We are supposed to be a country that tolerates many beliefs but we do seem to put our most prevalent religions beliefs in our countries songs, pledges and print. I always just thought of God as a pronoun more that a proper name, meaning a higher power, anyone’s higher power. Maybe they could just use the word “higher power” instead of God???? I don’t know, it really does not bother me. As someone said, the pledge is to promote patriotism not religion.

I also agree with the person that said we need to teach our kids patriotism. We have to also teach them not to be misled by someone who wants to use our patriotism for their own goals. (The Viet Nam “conflict” for example) (A heart felt Thank You to Viet Nam and all Vets!)

I sometimes feel if the terrorists don’t bring the country down we have Americans that may do it themselves. Out of touch, politically correct Judges/lawyers and cheating, stealing corporate leaders and politicians will. Anyway, maybe I should start another topic for this.

As for 9/11. If anything good came from this it was that it showed us how good we have it here in our country. I know it really affected my kids in that they now see we have things that others do not. You can’t see or explain freedom easily but now they know what it is and have more appreciation for it. It is sad that they have to learn it this way. And by the way, my flag is still out in front of my house. And I think more about what I can do for my country.

Higher Power Bless America! (no, just doesn’t sound right)

I think "God" can be used to mean whatever you belive in, not "Thee God."
The other thing is, it will never be taken out of the pledge, just like the U.S. presidents will always close a speech by saying "God Bless America." The majority of U.S. citizens belive in God (or at least A God). Therefore the majority of the voting public wants a president that believes in God and mentions God. As such, the majority of the public doesn't care if "God" is said during the Pledge.
Let's not even mention the song "God Bless America"...

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
|QUOTE|82dukman said: Let me chime in here too. i agree with everything that has already been said, so I won't repeat it. i can't believe that this country is in a downward spiral and some yahoo decides to bring up this trivial BS. And then have the Ba### tosay that the reason he was doing it was so some others wouldn't say it. This shows what people think of this country where you can do anything you want. They put is on the currency and in the "Pledge" after Pearl harbor. And now after Sept 11 you think some people would want to have this in there and show patriotism (which was why it was put in there in the first place).
I agree with the fact that all of the kids today don't give a sh## and think everything is a joke and have no respect for anything. i see it everyday in my profession, and they think this is funny.
If I pulled half of the crap that kids do toady, my father would have killed me. But then again, my father and mother took the time to spend it with my brother and I. Not like today where all anyone cares about if themselves.
There I'm done and sorry about the rant, but this issue and those like piss me off.
Chris has left his soapbox|/QUOTE|

I too get pissed off about the young kids today, not all of them just a few. Two kids age 15 kidnapped a woman, tied her up and threw her off a bridge by St Louis. She drowned, and the police found the kids, and they were tried and convicted. That happened a little over three years ago. I just read in the paper that the police caught one of those two again, selling cocaine. Evidently, they were too young to keep in jail, so they turned them loose. The courts of law should have hung the little bastards. They don't deserve to live.....The laws of the land are made for the crooks, and rapists, and killers. I say, live by the sword, DIE by the sword, and I don't care how old they were at the time of the incident. I'm not saying that I was an angel all of my life, but I sure as hell didn't RAPE, or KILL someone... Another thing that pisses me off, is all of the dogooders holding a candlelight vigilance for a convicted murderer, about to get the death penalty. They should have injected those guys years ago... Now my good state is about to abolish the death penalty. Thanks, Gov. Ryan. What a JERK!!!
Also time for me to get off of my soapbox....I probably have a few more people pissed at me, now.. |sad|

By the way, in the picture of my car, about 3 feet to the left, there is a flag on the porch, I wish it was in the picture, but that flag flies at my house every DAY... |thumb| |thumb| |thumb|
If I didn't have so much trouble posting the picture, I would redoo it..|laugh| |laugh|
