On Monday night, President Bush said he would send 6,000 National Guard troops to patrol the U.S.-Mexico border. By Tuesday morning, Mexico announced it would file several lawsuits if U.S. troops "become directly involved in detaining migrants." The Mexican government, apparently, is concerned the United States is making it too hard to illegally cross the border and may force many illegal aliens to cross in more perilous areas. Also, Mexico said it may expand its illegal immigrant protection force, known as Grupo Beta, to counter the effectiveness of expanded U.S. border patrols. But get ready for round two: the House last week (with Congressman Miller's support) authorized the Defense Department to completely militarize the southern border, but the measure must still clear the U.S. Senate.
