Has anyone else been ripped off by Pep Boys on rebates? I purchased cases of oil from them which included rebates. They don't pay them. If you call them they give you a total run around. I never liked their stores anyway. Just want to warn everyone else.

Pep Boys isn't my favorite place either. I hear good things about AutoZone, but the closest one is over thirty miles away. There's an Advance Auto nearby, but even though I think Pep Boys suffers from lack of organization and cleanliness, as well as less than helpful employees, they are less expensive than Advance Auto on most things.
On most common things, I go to WalMart...much less expensive on the basics.

I agree... "crap boys" sucks..
"auto trash" has gotten alot better over the last few years.. it used to be a running joke that the reason they gave you a lifetime warranty on a starter was so you would goto their store at least every six months.
their quality has improved drastically. whether you can find a knowledgable employee is hit or miss..
when replacing a part at autozone i always make sure to take the part with me and compare if I can... last night there computer showed three different water pumps for my truck.. not one of them was the right one.. but they were able to look up the casting number and find the right one.

The only thing I ever bought from Pep Boys was a hose that died quickly. But there are not any in Akron so not a big deal.
Advanced in our area has to be the worse one on the planet. It's not the store, it the people there. RUDE AND LAZY!
I do go to AutoZone quite a bit. Minimum of once a week on Sunday. They have some junk but they have some good stuff as well. Several of there local stores have some average guys, but there are several good knowlegable ones as well. Lou and Mark in Tallmadge, Fred in Akron, Jerry in Cuyahoga Falls, and others. I always use the guy who only works only on Sunday at the store closest to me. Me. Thats the parts store I work part time in, and where the money for my C3 comes from. I also get the 20% employee discount. SO if you are in Cuyahoga Falls OH and need something on a Sunday, say hi.
Dan R brought his 69 by for me to see. Nice Car Dan.

I shop at Advance, Auto Zone or Oreillys, and I always leave disappointed. My best luck at getting service, parts and answers is always at NAPA. I find myself going there more and more all the time. Prices are not the best, but sometimes its worth paying a little more. Kind of like the difference between going to a sitdown restaurant vs going to a fast food joint.

NAPA here too. seems the guys behind the counter are more knowledgeable. I hate AutoZone. cannot get any help and it takes forever to get thru the checkout.
I'd go to Cuyahoga Falls but it's about a 45 min drive one way.

there is only one napa here and i refuse to go there unless im desperate. they are rude and act like inconveniencing them by shopping in their store..
there is another napa in a town not far from here thatis the same way..

For the most part, I've had pretty good luck at "The Zone", You do sometimes need to take the old part in for comparison. Their motor mounts for my '68 wouldn't fit, neither would NAPA's. I got the deer in the headlights look at napa, but the pimple faced kid at the zone took a few extra minutes, looked at '72 big block mounts and they matched!

I have most all of the above named ones near me. My preference is NAPA, but do some business at the Zone. Pep Boys is definately a last resort.
