Wheeew!! Just got back from Frye's with a new 'puter. 'Bout $1200......... It's a H.P. Pavillion
Pentium 4
512 MB SDRAM
200 GB hard drv
C/D R/W & DVD burner
Win. XP Home
17" flat screen
Cannon printer
yada-yada-yada...
Also picked up the Ad-Aware SE plus virus program
Haven't hooked it up yet, but hopefully tommorrow I'll have time. (I gots to take the '85 in to get the new tars put on it in the morn.)
I could use some feedback...is this a decent system for just fartin' around? I don't do any games, or download any music, etc. I mostly just talks to you guys, do some e-mail, and check out the Ebay action once & a while.(I would NEVER cruize the porno sites!)

Sounds like everything you would need.  And a bit more than I have.

Enjoy it, and make sure you have/get/use the programs to protect it.

I'm havin' a hard time gettin to my e-mail, because the friggin' Norton program won't allow it, and it tells me I'm not authorized to turn it off!!! I do like it, as it is a great improvement over the Win.-95 I had. I'll have to spend some more time with it, and i'm sure I'll get a little better at it! There also seems to be a fight goin on between my ISP, and the AOL set-up that's pre-loaded on this turd. Hopefully, after the 60 day "Free trial", I can get back to my normal ISP. Thanks for all the help from you good folks
btw........The new Kumhos on the '85 worked out pretty well....at least they don't ride like a steel wheel!!! Adams' Apple38507.8729282407

Be carefull when you go to cancel the AOL.  You MUST do it by a letter.  If you try to do it on line, they won't cancel and will bill you.  Been there done that.

Well, once again, I have a problem.
My virus program detected a "Trojan Horse Downloader.Agent.ETP" last nite, and supposedly "healed" the file. Tonite, it found it again.
Anyone know what the heck this is, and will the AVG program, as well as SpySubtract/CWS and Ad-Aware programs take care of it? Should I be scared, VERY scared?

A trojan horse is very bad and can, if it's the right kind, with extended use destroy the drive & all contents. When you run a anti virus program only have one installed at a time as sometimes they confict with each other. Do you know how to uninstall projams? If AVG doesn't get rid of it try  http://www.bullguard.com/ . I would also install the new sypware software from AVG. Also for every ones info anyone can get this stuff now just surfing normal sites...you don't have to be looking at the nudies. I've seen some pretty nasty stuff coming from major corporations & normal sites. I deal with this stuff every day & it's getting worse instead of better. If this dosen't work post again & I'll give you some more things to do. But backup your pictures & anything you need now before you do anything else.

Here is what AVG says about this file....

"Exploit.WMF
These files exploits WMF vulnerability in Windows Operating Systems that allows malware code execution while WMF format file is opening. Unfortunately security patch for this vulnerability is not available at this time. AVG detects these files as Exploit.WMF and also as Trojan horse Downloader.Agent."
December 29, 2005

I have downloaded a "VCleaner Removal Utility" from AVG.
I am going to try it, and see what happens. I've heard that some of these viruses can dig themselves deeper into the 'puter every time you try to remove them. I hope I'm not fixin to do something I'm gonna regret.
AVG did NOT find these horsies today, so maybe it has been able to fix them.

I am having a problem with posting here, tho. When I post, it normally takes about 5-6 seconds to go from "Post Message" to the forum page I am posting to. For the last week or so, it is taking almost a full minute to post, after clicking on "Post Message". This started before the trojan horse crap, so I don't believe the two are related.

Ay idears out thar???

Naw, she wouldn't do that!!  Now, your a different STORY.......!  Dave said the software you have now should clear it out.  So far, (knock on wood) we haven't had a problem.  We use Norton and it automaticly updates the system for new viruses and if there is one it will isolate it.  I think it has a built in virus killer spray.... ...I'm sorry, I just couldn't help myself.
