Joel - you might want to check and make sure there isn't a process running on your computer that's eating CPU cycles. An easy way to check is to right-click on the task bar (grey bar at bottom of screen) and select task manager. Then click on the performance tab. If the CPU usage graph is pegged at 100%, then that would explain why your pc is running slow. If it's not pegged, then something else is causing the slowdown.

Is posting the only thing that's slow or is everything crawling?

John, everything else is just as quick as normal. E-mail response, web page loading, etc. It is ONLY a time lag/delay when posting a message here @ C3VR.
Adam suggested clearing the "temp internet files/delete all off-line content", but that really didn't do anything.
The CPU usage is averaging 7-8%.
It is responding fine in every way except the posting.

it took 45 seconds for this post to appear after clicking "Post Message", even tho the text at the lower left said "Done"... Adams' Apple38940.8450231481

Hmmm - clearing the "temp internet files/delete all off-line content" was going to be a suggestion. The problem has been going on for while, so obviously a reboot doesn't fix the problem. Maybe javascript is acting wonky. Can you click the buttons on this page? http://www.dcn.davis.ca.us/go/explorit/java/JavaScript.html? first=12345

Do you use Internet explorer for your web browser? You might want to download mozilla (www.mozilla.com) and try it. That will help tell if it's an operating system problem or a browser problem.

Whoah - dial-up. Kinda like driving a Pinto instead of a Vette!

Joel, sorry to hear about your problem. It sounds like to transfered the virus from your old puter to the new one. So it's either a corrupt file, or program. To my understanding, you can only have one anti-virus program running. Otherwise I think they have a conflict  and can make them both ineffective.

If it will make you feel any better, I've been having a slight slow down posting here too. And I have Cable so maybe it's just the site getting to many hits, and we don't have enough bandwidth or memory. I really don't know which, but it sounded like I knew what I was talking about

Joel,
I fell yer pain man.... my puter went through the same woes. I finally dumped everythin outta it, saved it but have never put it back due to the fear that little fellars would jump outta the horse an invade the DELL outta me again .
I also changed internet providers and went with $14.99 Verizon DSL who can keep me much safer than my old provider . They offer a nice safety net of items ta keep puters from pukin .
I think previously I was invaded by one of the gazillion pop -ups that JUNO was allowin inta my puter .
Good luck with yer HP... my old 1 didn't werk out but made fer some mighty fine target parctice on a Sunday afternoon !

Well, I've managed to remove the horsie virus. but....
I still have to wait for up to 60 seconds to see a response(post reply) appear in the forums.

"This page was generated in 1.4063 seconds.".....my butt!!
I'll figure it out, sooner or later....
