Neutering Mickey was kinda the plan from the start, at least Deb's plan. I was resistant, just a guy thing. I liked the option of possibly having puppies again sometime in the future. Ten years ago our pups had a litter of 5 and it was pretty fun with all the babies! But with these medical conditions being most likely genetic, neutering is probably gonna happen.
I hope it won't make him nuts like his "brother" Wrigley. He's wacko.
Mickey's doing so well I'm thinking of asking the vet if we can move up the hip surgery. He goes in for stitches removal on Tuesday. Hate seeing him still carring his left leg, afraid it won't completely heal right if he doesn't start using it.
Because I had to work, he spent the last two mornings in "daycare" at my regular vet out in the reception area with the girls. They say he loved all the attention!

Just an update for those who've expressed an interest.
Mickey had his hip surgery this morning. Just 3 weeks after the two knees were fixed. Vet felt his recovery was so good that it made sense to get the hip fixed so he would start using that leg again.
Basically, the ball of the ball/socket hip joint was removed. No artificial joint or anything else necessary. The cartilage and tendons and muscles take over. With the pain removed he should start using the leg again, but it may take a while as it might feel a little weird to him.
The joint was so deteriorated the vet thinks there was also a hairline fracture involved, too. Most likely because of the deterioration.
This was decided yesterday and I felt so bad snatching him up out of bed at 5:30 this morning to take him back to the hospital. And he knew where we were when we got there!
Hopefully the hip recovery will be as swift as the knees.
Can't bring him home till tomorrow.

Good luck to you Mike.... I sure hope everything works out well.
Our basset hound passed away on Tuesday. It has been a horrific week for multiple reasons. This was the end of a terrible day. Each day since that time has gotten better.
Every once in a while I believe we are put to the test just to reaffirm our position in this world.
Thanks for keeping us informed about Mikey.

Hoping for a speedy recovery. You can't hold these little guys down.
I hate to have to leave them at the vet over night. They don't know what's going on. He'll be overjoyed to see you tomorrow.

We're all pulling for him over here.
Tux, I understand your pain. My folks just had to put down their poodle. She got sick from the darn Chinese food deal and survived that, only to get liver cancer.
Doc suspects that the cancer is tied to the food debacle, but can't prove it.
We're thinking of you guys too.
