I was wondering if anyone knows how they divide the competitors at the strip...like if I went to a strip with an 11 second car, who would I be racing, or 10s, or 9s.

I don't know much about drag racing but I thought cars were divided by class (Stock, Super Stock, etc) with either engine displacement or horsepower factoring in.

Check the NHRA web site. I would think they would have some sort of a class breakdown somewhere on their site.

Sounds like you want to do some 'bracket' racing. They divide the cars into classes according to the elapse time ( e.t.). Then they pair the cars up as closely as possible (ie. the 11.99-10 sec. cars in one class,12.99-13 sec. cars, etc.) then the car with the slower et gets a head start at the start line. For instance, a 12 sec car racing an 11 sec car would get a 1 sec head start. Theoretically, both cars will cross the finish line at the same time. It all comes down to who cuts the best light at the start. At the end of the day, if you do well, you could possibly have a 9 sec car racing against a 16 second car, with the 16 sec car getting a HUGE 7 sec head start. Hope this helps, if you're thinking of 'Bracket' racing. Just remember, it's supposed to be FUN!!!! |laugh| |laugh| |laugh| Good luck ! |thumb| |thumb| |wavey|
