I'm an NRA member...certified instructor in the arts of the handgun, shotgun, home firearm safety and personal protecton. When I was active law enforcement I also was certified as a law enforcement firearms instructor in handgun and shotgun as well as submachine gun.
Little known or remembered fact...the Militia Act of 1792 requires all members of the unorganized militia to own and maintain firearms of the type used by the military for when called up to service. The unorganized militia was all able-bodied citizens.
The Militia Act of 1792 has never been repealed! It's still in force.
Where do I go to pick up my M16?

Former NRA member (got too political for me and needy). Ex-military with a Concealed Carry permit in MO and applying for one in KS (new home). I seldom carry, mostly in the car on a long trip.
My wife pooh-poohs me when I tell her that there are three types of folks in the world: WOLVES (terrorists and criminals come to mind), SHEEP (the average citizen who never thinks anything will happen to them, my wife included), and SHEEPDOGS (that happens to be me). Someone needs to defend the sheep from the wolves. I am not paraniod, just watchful. Too much s- - - happening in our world today and I don't intend to become a victim.
Down off the soap box. You shouldn't have got me started!

Sundevil74 The topic of sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs is expressed by Lt.Col. Dave Grossman in the following way (see link). The analogy of these animals and people is a good one. He is a very dynamic speaker and has some very good points to make.

Sundevil...
You reminded me of when I was active law enforcement in DC on midnight shift. I realized early that at night there were two species on the street (not counting the rats)...predators and prey.
During the day the predators are Congress!

Chip, The analogy was SOOOOOOO good that I knew it wasn't my original thought. Just forgot where I read it. The article is excellent and so true. Thanks for the link.
