Sorry guys this isnt a vette question but its from the C3 era.

I posted here because I need the gear heads to help me

When I got this car it wouldn't run. I finally figured out it was the carb. I called the auto store and got a rebuild kit for a stock 1979 Mazda RX7 carb. All the parts worked fine. So the paper says its a 6520. I beleive thats what it is.

All week I thought this thing is gutless. Anyway to make a long story longer :sleeping3: It turns out the secondaries were seized closed. After tearing it apart again I have the secondaries working except for 1 thing. They dont work unless I physically throttle the secondary linkage.

1. The linkage is setup like this is vacuum secondaries, but I cant find any vacuum pots.

2. The mechanical linkage works like it mechanical secondaries.

My question is this:
Is this a mechanical or vacuum secondary carb?

I have great pictures Here: http://home.comcast.net/~m0mmy_0f_ang3ls/carb/carb.htm

Thank you for reading

Last RX7 I did the carb on was an IMSA-styled '74. I remember building the carb, and I'm sure it was mech. secondaries. The problem you are having may be the secondary throttles are 'locked',similar to the way a Quadrajet's are. There is a small lever on them that keeps the sec. blades from opening until the choke reaches full open, and sometimes it hangs up. Do the secs. open when you move the throttle cable w.o.t.? If not, hold the choke blade open and try again. If the secs. were seized to begin with, there's probably something mechanically wrong, and they just froze after not being used for a long time. I have a old (69-85) Chilton's man. for imports, and I'll check it in the morn., and see if I can help.

I really appriciate the help.

The secondaries are working perfect if i grab the linkage and throttle them. The just dont work with the primaries.

Did the pics appear to you this is a mechanical secondary carb?
