This Wednesday at 9pm ET/ 10pm PT, SPEED Channel and Dream Car Garage bring you a classic shootout featuring seven of the most treasured production muscle cars from the late sixties and early seventies. My money is on the Chevelle

I used to have a 70 GS. It was the "slow" Stage3 with the very strong 350 CID. That thing would boogie.
I don't have Speed channel. I'm bummin.

I think it's going to be close between the Chevelle and the Hemi.
Should be a good show.
Don't count out the G.S. tho. After seeing that one blow up on the dino I want to see it run the 1/4!

Im not sure the Goat would win any of the categories but it will make a respectable showing overall.
One day I will have one.
I could be "complete" with the following three cars
69 vette
69 XKE
69 GTO

The hemi, as strong an engine as it is, was never a very good street engine. It was at its best at high rpm's on the NASCAR ovals and in drag racing. Most other big blocks, like the Chevy and the big Mopar wedge engines developed their peak horsepower and torque at lower rpm levels that was good for the street while the Hemi was still building rpm's.
I'm not putting down the Hemi...it deserved the legend it built in racing. The street Hemi was never sold in enough numbers to be a real force on the streets (no more than 12k built from '66-'71). Besides...twice around town and the plugs were fouled out. It was designed to be driven wide open..simply not good for a street car.
I say the Chevelle is the one to beat out of this group if they're all stock.

Bruce, everything you say about the HEMI is true. But looking at the test they are going to perform, I would still bet on it as a very strong contender. That type of thing is where the Hemi lives. It all depends on the gearing. It will be interesting.

For those people who didn't get to see it....the Boss 429 took it...Chevelle LS-6 second. The Chevy LS-6 had a auto with 331 gears....and the Hemi had a bad clutch.
It was still fun to see the cars running flat out.
