Can someone tell me what the heck is up with this "ANTI-SUV" thing that seemed to all of the sudden come about?

Who are these people that are claiming that by owning and driving a SUV, that we are supporting terrorism.
They act like the gas put into a sport ute is directly supporting the terrorist. So what if it gets only 11-15 mpg. This is America. I thought. I'll drive what I damn well like and can afford.
But no..they want you to buy and drive a thrifty little "import" or "crossover" thing (that doesn't get killer fuel economy). Oh...and it still burns gas, but I guess it not the gas used to support terrorist. The same stuff we have been burning in cars since the beginning. Duh!
Tractor trailers only get around 7 mpg. But thats o.k. Guzzling endless gallons of Diesel,(which is refined from the same crude oil) spewing harmful "carcinogenic" sooty exhaust in the air. They don't go telling them to use a freight train, which can haul mile long cars loaded with the same trailers that are pulled by trucks.
So whats next?...pick on the people who own hot rod's and vette's that get less than 30 some mpg. Next they'll be telling us to go and buy a nice fuel efficient 4 cylinder import to replace are toy's with. Cause those cars won't be helping the terrorist as much.lol. I just don't get it.

Sarge (and his anti-terrorist 13 mpg '96 Chevy Tahoe)

|cussing| Sarge, this thing has been brewing for a long time. It's the same bunch of tree-huggin, granola-crunchin hypocrits that want us all to drive electric mini cars because they can't afford an SUV. They started out claiming that suv's were unfair to people that owned small cars because in an accident, the suv drivers had a better chance of surviving than the eugo drivers.
(hello, dumbass, buy an suv so you can have a good chance of surviving too!!) Now, after the 911 attacks, they are trying to use the terrorist angle to achieve their agenda because most of our oil comes from the middle east.
These are the same dope smokin idiots that are behind the proposals to have our cars declared an environmental hazard and force us to let the government crush our older cars.
Nothing I own gets more than 12 or 13 mpg, and if I want to spend my hard earned $$ on gas, that's my business not anyone else's!!! I have a 99 3/4 ton suburban with an injected vortec 454 torque monster in it that gets about 12 mpg. I also have a 68 camaro with a 450 hp 327 that gets 9 mpg, a 73 vette with a 600 hp 502 that gets 7 mpg, an 85 bayliner cierra with a 475 hp 454 that gets 3 mpg, an 88 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 pickup with a 450 hp 355, it gets 9 or 10 mpg. But I don't care because the pleasure my wife and I get out of being able to blow just about anyone's doors off far out weighs the cost of the fuel. Sorry to ramble on, but this kind of stuff just gets my blood boiling.
I could go on for hours about thing like this, but their probably isn't enough room on Adam's server for it all. LOL

I hate to disagree with ya'll, but I hate SUVs, not because of gas mileage, not because they'll run my ass over rather than hit me(preferred actually, |laugh| ) I just think its totally idiotic for some dude in Newark, NJ who considers the suburbs to be "back-woods." I own a C3, I drive it on the streets, you own a SUV that claims to be this rugged offroad vehicle, get it the heck off the streets! I saw someone go flying past me in the snow the other nite(I was in my C3 they in their SUV) going very fast acting like their 4 wheel drive would give them god-like powers in the snow...couple miles later, the guy was in the ditch SUV cracked open like an eggshell. I hate SUVs because the people who buy them use them for city/highway driving. The only people I know who own SUVs and USE them as the commercials claim they were designed to be used either work in construction and beat the heck out of their SUV(more often they drive a truck though), and people who own Jeep wranglers, which isn't even an SUV its a Jeep... Thats my $.04

We have two Vettes and two Jimmys. The Jimmys get about 19 mpg cause we do a lot of highway driving to work. The '93 Vette gives over 20 mpg going to work. The '69 Vette, well something has to be below 10 mpg. I don't care if people say I am supporting anyone. I know the two people the Jimmys support...me and my wife by getting us to work in bad weather so we can bring home a paycheck. In our area front or rear wheel drive just don't get you in and out before the plows and salt trucks go through.

Except for the Jeeps, the majority of SUV's are designed mostly for the street. Many folks in my area drive SUVs. They are great suburban work vehicles; 4 wheel drive for the snow (haven't seen grass here for two weeks), sturdy suspension, great people mover, kid pic em ups, hauling items too large for a car, good visability, etc... I've owned an SUV for 20 years. I luv it. Twice a year it will see the 'wilderness' when I go hunting, other than that, its all pavement. The tree huggers can go pound sand...
BTW, I drive a vette, a vehicle which gets poor gas milage and a vehicle which serves no purpose other than to make me feel good. Isn't it great to live in America |saluteflag|

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
I have a chevy Trailblazer, and a Ford Explorer, and I wouldn't trade either one for one of those tinker toy small cars. My wife loves her ford, and I like the chevy Ok. I had a Durango before the Chevy, and I liked it best of all. It didn't like to go by too many gas stations, though. The trailblazer gets much better gas mileage, and is the same size. The Chevy has all of the bells and whistles too. I don't even have to turn on lights, windshield wipers, set the mirrors for another driver, or turn up the radio. That thing does it all. Automatic everything. It will probably be a nightmare when it gets a couple of years old. |thumb|
