That sucks, what's worse is they probably live around you and more n likely they will try to hit you again! I got a paranoid schizophrenic doberman and he does a pretty good job at keeping an eye on the place, my wife complained when I brought him home but at the time but I was still doing multiple deployments overseas and traveling quite a bit. It took awhile but I took the heat until she finally warmed up to him.

Seriously, I was surprised at the excellent selection of surveillance cameras they have at the home depot and most of them are reasonably priced. Black&White works really well in low light conditions, add in a motion light and you got a lot of the bases covered as far as logging who's coming and going. A lot of vcr's had a slow record option if you got one hiding in the closet you can put it to good use.

not much more to be said than what already has been. camera and motion lite is great idea as then you have absolute proof as who it was. also might want to put one of those annoying alarms that would alert even your neighbors and maybe they would call the police. glad they didn't touch the cars.

Motion detectors with flood lights that will light up the whole block, the kind that can burn retinasAngry, and loud alarms will scare them off. Cameras are the best, you can get them at a good price nowadays.
Lets hope it does not happen again.

Just tie  in the adt, brinks, or whatever you have,  system from the house. It works really well and it stops thieves from poking around. I work hard for my stuff and I'll get rid of it when I want to, not when somebody else like's it better. Oh yea, motion lights, and a security sign. helps.
I hate thieves. Nuthin Pi**'s me off more.

Thanks guys, I think for now I am going to install a deadbolt lock on the door.

This side of my garage faces the house. It has 10 landscape lights which are lit throughout the night. There is a light post within 10' of this door and the dog kennel is within the same proximity. So I am thinking this person is pretty ballsy and quite.

I like the red light or camera directed towards the door idea. I have an older video camera that we no longer use that I could install.

Up until the last time I was ripped off I really wanted to catch them in the act. But then I learned they stole a Glock 9MM handgun from my neighbors and I decided I would hate to die being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time by some scared crapless little snottnosed low life scumbag theif.

That thought made me just appreciate the only stole stuff and did nothing malicious or harmfull to belongings or persons.

Who knows myabe I'll get lucky and get the stuff back.... I was up til about 2 this morning listening for a chainsaw running!

Dont anybody do that!!  I had a neighbor do that, got caught by the local sheriff, got off with a warning from them (not sure the charge), but he and I both checked it out with attorneys, and were warned against it in this lawsuit happy country that we live in.

Unless you are actually behind the door, that is considered a no-no. You can't "bait" an entry with deadly force.
Consider the guy that rigged the shotgun with a string to his garage/storage shed...guy breaks in, and gets a face-full of 00buck. Guess who went to jail?
Had the owner been behind the door, and was in fear for life and property, it would have been totally legal. Go figure....

There is a person here locally(name with-held), that was getting his Xmas reindeer knocked around overnight, several times in the past week or so. You have to go WAAAY up in this man's property to get to them...not right on the street. He got tired of it...went to Northern Tools, and got him an electric fence charger. Now...the deer he has are them wire framed, animated kind. Guess what is now electrified with a non-lethal jolt of lectricity? Guess who's deer ain't been messed with, either?

As much as I would like to retaliate I believe in the none confrontive method. If the person is willing to steal from somebody then who knows what else the person is capable of.

Personally I don't want to find out. I do believe that I have a resposiblity to protect what I value. With that in mind I will be adding a few legal security features to both the garage and home.

Wouldn't you know out of all of this I end up spending more to protect what I already have. Something about that just seems downright unfair.

Sorry to hear that! Yeah, there have been lawsuits filed by crooks who were hurt while breaking into someone's house, so as nice as it would feel to get them, it's probably best to not do something like that.
