It's because the government in its infinite wisdom is trying to save energy by lengthening the daylight hours earlier.
I remember the government did it back in the '70s during a gas crunch and all it accomplished was instead of having longer hours of daylight, it simply time shifted everything so kids were going to school in the dark where they would have had daylight.
The most frightening phrase one can hear: "I'm from the government and I'm here to help!"

There's only three things I require of the government...
1) Deliver my mail;
2) Defend my shores;
3) Leave me the Hell alone!

And did you see where this "time-saving effort" will cost you and me BILLION$$ (with a B)?
All the electronic devices and clocks that aren't programmed to deal with this brilliant idea. Go figure. . . . I say throw the bums out and let's try it again.
My wife said that after this there will be no more switching back.Anybodyelse hear this? I'm also a fan of the fair tax.zgator 2007-03-08 15:44:52

Dear Valued Network Solutions(R) Customer:
We wanted to make you aware that U.S. daylight-saving time will start this Sunday, March 11, three weeks earlier than usual. This change was authorized by the U.S. Energy Policy Act of 2005. While we all look forward to more daylight, we did want to let you to know that many technology vendors are issuing patches and warning customers about the possible impact this time switch may have on their personal and business computers, including the time zone settings on the systems clocks which may be incorrect during a four-week period following March 11th. This could lead to calendaring applications not working properly and key, automated processes not taking place on time. You may want to look on the Internet to get some tips on making sure your computer is ready for an earlier date change. Some good sites to visit include:
http://people.howstuffworks.com/dst-bug.htm,
http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cp_dst,
http://webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/index.html and
http://www.energy.gov/about/EPAct.htm
Please be assured that all products and services that are hosted by Network Solutions on your behalf are being updated for the earlier daylight saving date.
Sincerely,
Network Solutions Customer Support

My friend works IST and he told me that the time change is screwing up a lot of computer applications.
I also heard a rumor that this is the end of "daylight savings", but I can't confirm if that's true or not.
