The new (February) issue of HOT ROD magazine has a list of what they consider the top 40 car movies ever made. The top ten are.....

American Graffiti

2 Lane Blacktop

Vanishing Point

Bullitt

Gumball Rally

Thunder Road

Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry

Smokey & the Bandit

Blues Brothers

Hollywood Knights

Corvette Summer was #15, French Connection #23, Christine #28, Gone in 60 Seconds #35, Tucker: The Man & His Dream #37, and The Fast & The Furious was #40. They give you their opinion of the flick, and also some info, like the names of the major actors, the director, the "star" or the movie, which of course is the car or cars, and the cost of it now on DVD. They also give you a list of the top ten that aren't available on DVD. It's a very interesting article-check it out.....

That brings back some memories...after watching "The Hollywood Knights", some friends swore the Newbomb Turk character must have been based on me when I was that age. Not exactly something I took as a compliment! I know I did some stupid and questionable things way back, but that was over the top.

Those HOT ROD guys know a lot of trivial things about these movies too. Would you believe that the same car appeared in both the number one and number two movies? The '55 Chevy in #1 is the same car that James Taylor drove in #2, except for the paint job.....

There were two identical Chevies in Two Lane Blacktop...one of them is now owned by someone in my local area. He drives to many local cruise-ins every summer.

The American Graffiti 55 BelAire just sold at auction too..  It went if im not mistaken at about 30k, it was an "optimistic" #4 car..

There was a real nice '70 Charger in it which, unfortunately, they destroyed at the end of the movie. I'm not a big fan of rice-burners either, but it was the only car movie out at the time.......

What about "The Car"??? Custom Lincoln(blacked out winders, flat black paint, NO DRIVER, and apparently indestructable) terrorizes a man & his fam. This car had the most wicked sounding engine I've ever heard in a movie!!
