As an old Vet, 1966-1970, I feel a deep honor to the men now in the service , God bless them and send them home soon. Because of men like them, we can still play with Vettes, talk to one another through email, and vote!

i to served from 1966-1970. i was a hospital corpsman (medic) i spent the latter part of 1968 and all of 1969 in the NAM as in Viet with the 1'st Marines. i am proud of my service to this country, but not the way the war ended. it seemed like it was all for nothing. "politician's"
God bless this country. gene
Perhaps the war was not worth much. But I disagree. It was very important to the citizens of .... Here. The politicans wasted a lot. But many of our own gave everything. And others gave much. Those who were missed at home, prayed for, held in hope and dreams of a better day, were loved by many, both those close to them and by those who never met them.
It meant a lot to those who cared about those who served. No matter how the politicans dealt with anything.
I am one who cares about every service man or woman out there. And there are many like me. Thanks to everyone of you.
When I was going to Viet Nam in 69-70, I knew I'd be in Saigon - not our in the "bush" - so I never fully understood my folks' concerns about me going there. As a parent, I do now - IN SPADES!!
I'm especially pleased to see the general population is supporting the troops - no matter what they think of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. That's not the way it was during the 'Nam era - and it's a very welcome change for this old vet.
So ... support the troops and, just as importantly, their families back here at home. The families need our support - and help sometimes. Give it freely - it'll be appreciated more than you can imagine.
"KICK A** AND TAKE NO PRISONERS!!"
Kstyer, honestly in all these years i have never heard anyone put a prespective on vietnam the way you just did, thank you, you have made my day, hell my month. i spent 22 years not telling anyone that i served in vietnam, i always felt like no one cared, i was wrong. because of certain situations in my life i now try not to hide it. i hope i don't sound like i'm whinning. gene
i promise not to speak of this again.
Gene, all of those who claimed to hate the service people really did not. They just hated the situation, and needed a target to take out their anger. They chose the wrong target. They chose their own. Very sad. As you were one of the targets, it is expected that you would dodge their anger. That as normal as it gets. You should have no shame. The only shame is of those who chose to attack their own. But yet I understand even that action. When one feels helpless, they do what they believe they can. Sometimes that's wrong, but they tried. I feel sorry and sad for them. I feel sorry and sad for those who suffer from war, no matter who they are.
You are not whinning. You are sharing with others. Perhaps that will help you. I'm just sorry it can never be as much help as those who served have helped us all. Even in ways unspoken. And that includes you. You have a right to be proud. Thank You.
I would like to give a belated thank you to everyone for supporting our troops. A year ago I was eating thanksgiving dinner in Afganistan with my Battalion. This year my Battalion is scattered in 8 different countries. I had thanksgiving dinner with those in Colombia. We are use to being away from our families, but we still miss being at home for the holidays. So for all the men in my battalion, thanks and happy hollidays!
