We would occasionally get the tent caterpillars (web worms) in my dad's orchard. They can go through a tree pretty fast. I have used Bacillus Thuringiensis on caterpillars in the past with good results. Its a bacteria that effects bugs only so no harmful side effects
. Just takes a little longer then other chemicals.

to me. i know that they have caused damage to a lot of trees
around here. townships have sprayed some kind of insecticide but as
usual it was done after they got out of control.

Maybe tree frogs and birds eat em
Then the wild turkeys scratch up the ones on the ground. The racoons tear um up as they are climbing up the tree.
Natural yup nature takes care of it. Stay off yer roofs. Never turn yur roof sprinklers on when spouse is fixn the roof sprinklers
oops
Dont worry Jimmy B is fine now.

Magnet1 has the right answer for you Joel. Us a Systemic insecticide that is listed for that species of tree and follow the lable. Its what we use to control similar pests in our citrus groves. The systemic is absorbed by the plant and is translocated throughout the whole tree to attack anything that is chewing, sucking, etc. on it. You can treat the problem w/ contact insecticides but ther'e not as select and require better application equipment. The only other thing is to find its( the pest) natural preditor, if it has one, and release it ( called biological pest control) and let nature take its course. We use all three methods ........ Or you can do nothing !!!
