And visited Ken and his students.
Well it started out as... I won a large part for the GTO off of ebay. The item was located in Streetsboro which is just down the road from Ken. So instead of paying a $1200 shipping fee. I figure that Michele and I could make a roadtrip (3 hr 15 min), pickup our part and maybe get in a quick visit with our master tech.
So I gave Ken a call to see what he was up to since we haven't had a chance to visit him this year. Well he accommodated to a wonderful visit and an awesome "50 cent" tour of the school. Which I must say is one impressive establishment. And we had a chance to sit in with him and his class for a bit. Very Cool! His student will figure out quickly what a privilege it will be to have him as their teacher. But first they will have to get past the Styer brand of humor. Sorry Ken, but your jokes sometimes have the aesthetics of a C-130 cargo plane landing with its gear still up.

It was fun, and thanks again for setting aside some time for us!

Sounds like you had a great time, Darryl. I bet his students are very knowledgable and proficient when they get out of his class.

That is way cool Daryl. I hope to make a road trip this weekend to see Ken and a few other C3VR folks in Dayton.

$1200 for shipping?
Is that a typo?
You could ship the whole car for that much.

No not a typo my friend.

Hey Larry,
I wish I could make the roadtrip this weekend to meet up with you guy's, but it looks like I'll be plowing some snow. Can't pass up the OT.
As to the GTO rearend thing. Well...no I haven't blown it up yet. It will happen though. I got a great deal on a rear suspension cradle, complete with axles, differential, rotors, calipers, shocks. The assembly has 5000 miles on it, and I got it for $127.50!! I can't even buy one axle shaft for $100 for that car.
Unfortunately the GTO was driven through a couple winters here by a PO, so the rear suspension assembly rusted up pretty good. That's about the only part of the car that rusted. Odd IMO. This part I got is spotless! I will save the original diff and axles for an "incase I break it" situation. Once I can afford or score a Magnacharger for cheap, then drivetrain parts will start to break.
.

It instead cost me $50 in gas there and back. They were relieved I was coming down there to pick it up. They aren't to happy with their shipper at this point. It was nice to meet an ebayer in person. Very friendly couple. They let me back the truck up into a nice warm shop then loaded it on with a forklift. We chatted while I secured the load. Very pleasant time.
Ken even couldn't believe our deal of a century part.

That is in fact an amazing deal. BUT I have to say the best part of it was seeing a couple of friends again. It was too brief, but I really enjoyed the visit.
Anyone want a tour of the college, come on by.
As far a my humor, okay you are correct. It can be terrible, but it does keep the students awake. (What did he just say?) And then the are paying attention, and learn something dispite themselves. It really does work.
There is nothing better than seeing some of my family come for a visit. Cant' wait to see you guys again. If any of you guys can't make Cuyahoga Falls, stop by Cleveland.
