Currently undergoing a frame-off resto. and modifications.YEEHAW!!!
Hey everyone. Just to take away from some of the negativity of the past week, I'd like to ask you .....
What was your first car?
Mine was a 1974 Pontiac Ventura 2-door, 350 2bbl carb.,
brownish rust colored paint, and a trunk that would fit 5 of my friends into the drive-in theater. The car used to be my Grandfather's, and I just couldn't get rid of it. I loved that car, up until the day an idiot drunk driver retired the car for me.
Man, I really miss that car.
Let's hear it, folks..
Man, I can't wait to hear what Ken Styer had.
I wonder if they had cars back then.
(sorry Ken, couldn't resist.)

My first car was a 1962 Ford Fairlane, 4door,6cyl, 3-on-the tree. That was back in 1977. My first Chevy was a brand new 1985 3/4 ton pickup that I had for 14 years before I replaced it with my 1999 Silverado. I still have my 1988 Suburban.

My first car or the first one I drove a lot? My dad had a service station, and fixed cars. Imagine that. We had 6 drivers and 7 vehicles at one point. Mom, Dad, 2 older brothers, 2 younger sisters, me in the middle. The youngest was much younger.
70 AMC Ambassador, 401 4 bbl automatic, good performer for a full size car. 68 AMC Rebel station wagon, 290 2 bbl auto, great car, very nice driver, Very nice on the highway. Amazing traction. This thing went off road camping, towing trailers, through snow. It thought it was a jeep. It was one of my favorites. 70 Dodge Cornet, 318 2 bbl auto, slow great mileage 4 door. 68 Dodge Cornet, 2 door, 318 2 bbl quick lousy mileage. 70 AMC Gremlin, 258 6 cyl 1 bbl auto, my oldest brothers car and lots of fun. 64 Valiant Convertable, 225 slant 6 1 bbl auto, got it broken and we never fixed the engine. I still don't know why. 62 Buick Special station wagon, family kids transportation, I drove this one a lot. It was a V6 and three speed on the column. 62 Rambler American, 198 6 cyl 1 bbl, sold when I started to drive, but another kid mobile. Slower than molassas in January. And a 58 chevy 1/2 ton stepside pickup that was the service truck for the gas service station. An in line 6 and three on the tree, 16.5 inch split rims. I drove the truck a lot as well. We actually went on many dates in that thing. The most fun of all was my other brother's 57 Nash Metropoliton, another family kids car at first.
Then there was the 1964 Mercury Comet 4 door, 170 CID one bbl. 2 speed automatic. My grandmother bought it as a new demo. I got it from her in 1972. My first car. The bright red paint faded to very dull. Black interior. My favorite colors on a car. A well rubbed light coat of motor oil made the paint shine like mad for a couple of days for a date. It was too far gone for wax. Couldn't spin the tires on wet gravel. 4 wheel drum brakes. Anything smaller than a bowling ball in the trunk fell out the rusted holes in the quarter panels. The rear bumper fell off, and I hung it by coat hangers until I welded it back on. I used an old piece of trash can and Black Magic Body Filler to patch the holes in the front fenders to keep crud from flying off the tires and hitting the windsheild. Manual steering so hard the first time my girlfriend (now wife) drove it she almost went off the road at the first turn. She never drove it again, and would not let me drive with one arm around her after that. My mistake. I called it my "Trusty Rusty". It rarely let me down. I loved that car. (Didn't we all love the first one?) I could change the oil and filter, and grease it without jacking it up. Super easy to work on. It could hold me and 5 friends. I could fill the 20 gallon tank and have enough change from a $5 to get lunch at McDonalds. The engine did cool off once in a while. I had to work and sleep sometime.
My grandmother and I were very close. She could no longer drive when I got the car. She and I used that car every weekend to visit her friends and run her errands. She had the same lic. plates every year the entire time she owned the car. TZ748. When I get a vanity plate on the vette, it will be TZ748.
Now if you want to know about the near 40 cars I have owned, well.......

My first was a 77 Camaro 305. I put a 400 in it shortly after I bought it (blew the 305 imitating Burt Reynolds) FOR GRIBBLE - I blew it on 309 right next to Beach Mountain Lakes outside of Hazleton spinning a donut!
That's a lot of the reason I own a 77 Vette. I hope it's not a midlife crisis, i'm only 27!!!!!!!
Anyway, i've owned 24 cars in the past 11 years. Including MOSTLY F-bodies. And one GTO (It was really a Lemans Sport I made look like a GTO) I have been a lover of Muscle cars since I was a kid, and honestly I have no desire to own a new car, only old ones. I am a a lucky man to be married not only to my best friend (High school sweetheart) but also a woman that shares my passion in old American steel.

My first car was a '62 Chevy Bel Air Station Wagon. My high school buddies laughed at it due to all the mismatched shades of touch-up paint like it had leprosy. I always had the last laugh when I reminded them they were still on bicycles!
A 1960 Rambler staion wagon. When I bought it the engine was seized caused by a blown head gasket and water got in. Rebuilt the motor (I was about 15) and ran that car forever, that car was built like a Sherman tank. It was way cool at the drive-in, the front and rear seats would all fold down and sort of make a bed of the whole thing
