Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.
OK, folks...I haven't been able to post in a long time, but I'm here reading most of the time. I can't send posts from work anymore and since I spend more time there then at home anymore, and I hate fighting the kids for Internet access, I haven't posted as often as I'd like.
Anyway, first car...
First true car I ever purchased on my own was a 1984 Mazda RX7. A good friend from high school's sister had it sitting outside my friends house. Apparently it had water in the tank from a leaking gas nozzle, so I paid her a $1000 for it. A friend of mine pulled the tank and put a new one on, pulled the gas pump, dumped the water, blew it out, reinstalled it and viola! she fired right up! This was my first taste of a hi performance car, and next to the Vette, it's the most fun I've ever had behind the wheel.
Had it for about two years, but the one thing we forgot to do (Michigan winters and all) was drain the block (if that's even possible on the Wankels I don't know). Anyway, the second year of having it we got hit with a murderously cold winter, minus zero one night after driving it home from work and parking it, and when I went to start it for work the next morning it would crank but not fire. Had afew people look at it but none were familiar with rotary engines. All they could tell me was that it wasn't getting any compression. Sold it for $300.00 the next spring, but still wish I'd have just taken the leap and had the motor replaced. I still think about buying another one, but then I walk out in the garage and see the Vette and say "NAH!"

I hate to say it, but on a rotery if you take all the plugs out at once to check the compression, like every other car, you won't have any. You can only take out one plug at a time. And it's very difficult to start in subzero weather. I wonder how bad it really was.

Good point Ken! No we didn't take out all of the spark plugs at once. Only one at a time. And she never started again right up until the day I sold it. The new owners even called me to ask me to call their mechanic and explain what happened when she died. Don't know if they ever got it running or not.

My first car that I bought myself was a brand new 73 Dodge Charger SE, The car I learned to drive in a late 50's Mercury.
My first car was a 73 Dodge Challenger (318 auto). Nice clean car. Dad was a car salesman, took it on trade but never saw the dealer lot. I wish I still had her. Kept it for 10 years. Bought a 68 RT with a 440 Magnum and dropped the engine, tranny, and rear-end into my 73. (just had to change the mounts) That was a real sleeper.

My first car was a 1965 SS Impala 396/425 one of the few. Silver mist blue with black top bucket seats 4/speed 4:11 rear. One sweet car and I could kick my self for getting rid of it.
