Just a quick update.
The problem with my wifes leg is from an infection. They have the leg cleared up by surgery. The muscle was oozing. They got it stopped, and it looks like it will heal. There was a LOT of pain there.
The infection that caused is very unusual for her condition. It grows slow. A culture id showed what it is. It may have started in the leg or elswhere.
This is what has caused the double vision and other problems. They suspected a stroke at one point. The infection has established itself in several places in her brain. The resulting pressure is creating the nerve problems. The head pain, vision problems, and she is now very sluggish and almost non responsive. Communication is difficult and very limited. This has progressed to the point of the nervous system not keeping her air way open.
She is now in ICU on a resperator. I don't think I spelled that right. Now knowing what the infection is, a very strong antibiotic is being used in high volume to target it, instead of a wide range antibiotic. It is a waiting guessing game. If it acts fast enough, good. If not, they will do brain surgery to relieve some of the infection pressure in her brain.
Yes I am teaching my classes. I am tending to my other tasks. It helps to distract my mind. This is killing me, and could kill her. I can only see her for a half hour at a time, a couple of times a day. If my phone rings I am out of here like a shot. My students know this.
Sorry for the bummer. No, there is nothing anyone can do. Just though this was the easiest way to keep a few folks updated. Maybe I should not have posted this here. Tomorrow, 6/14, is our 30th anniversary.
My prayers an thoughts are with you, and your wife, Ken. As far as not posting it, don't feel that way. Time and time again, we all feel like an extended family, and are here for each other. That goes for the fun and frustration, good and bad.
