Vette(s): had a really nice one. sold it to a good friend. Purchased 2004 custom coupe in Feb. 2009 did not tell anyone here until August 2009. BAD I KNOW.

Maybe someone could share some light on this for me.  I went to both sites and called both places.  Zip seems to be alittle less expensive and they have a kit that includes actulator seals and filter, etc ect.

Doc seems to be a little higher, but they offer a trouble shooting guide, and according the docs web site they don't have anything good to say about zip.

I don't know which one I should go with if either.   Is one any better product than the other?

thanks it's just that the docs website sort of took me back. Larry

Before you leap off the end of the dock check out C3VR's sponsors (Bair's, Corvette America, Mid-America, Vette Specialties, PAS).  A couple offer discounts to C3VR members so be sure to ask when you place you order over the phone.  I know the folks at Bair's are VERY helpful and know their stuff.

Vette(s): 1973 Stingray Coupe and C5 and C6 Coupes.

I've used Zip a number of times and am very satified with them. I've also used most of the forum supporting vendors at one time or another over the past many many years and have no complaints.

I've found with most parts for the older cars there is only one manufacturer that makes/supplies the parts. All the retailers sell the same thing... most of the time.

If it's simply a choice between Zip and the Dr., I'd go with the nice, friendly folks at Zip over the sometimes gruff and abrasive Dr. They probably do have the exact same products, so why deal with someone who's likely to be in a bad mood? I've found the folks a Zip to be excellent in every way. my 2c

When I went to the good Docs website I felt the same way that you do. I have never ordered from him and can't speak of his abrasiveness personally. I did happen to run into him at Corvette Expo in Knoxville. I was looking for the chrome tips for a hardtop, which he did not have, and he gave me a catalog. I took it home and it is more of the same stuff that is on his webpage. I don't like the fact that he is bragging about sueing Zip and how much money he got out of them. Definately not the way to win my business.
I have bought from just about all of the major corvette vendors and have never run into this type of talk. If it were me and I had to choose between Zip and Doc........

I agree, they are all chasing the same dollar, so go with the one that you have the best experience with or one of the supporting vendors here that may save you a buck or two.

I have always liked Doc Rebuild's site for the illustrations and number of parts listed. I just ignore all the editorial stuff, and I have heard that customer service can be trying there at times, as well as all the others.

good luck

I have never had any bad experience problems with Doc Rebuild, in fact his catalog is a top notch reference.

I have emailed him and talked to him personally on the phone a number of times.  He is very helpful, and knows his stuff.

I agree that most of these items are made by the same people, and I do check supporting vendors first.  But when I run into doubts about the quality or correct usage of an item I goto Doc.  For small parts..  his catalog is hard to beat.  I reward him for making such a great reference tool.

He does appear to be a small operation.  I have called his shop numerous times and talked to the same two ladies when ordering.  As a small business owner myself I appreciate the small operation.
