Welcome to the shark pond. As many have said or will say, you'll get what you pay for. twin chromer bumpers will cost you more than a newer C3, (the greatest body sytle) C4 are the worst IMHO, they are really less expensive.
All I know is that I looked for over a year. Make a list of ehat you want it to have, what is has to have, what it needs working and what it does not have to have working, really spend some time looking, thinking, and planning, price parts, repairs, paint, interiors, the whole big picture all in one bundle, then break it down in to time lines and cost, sounds intense but it will be worth it.
I wanted a vette in # 2 condition, not so good that I would be afraid to drive it and not a peice of crap that I could never drive. I knew what year i wanted, manual tranny, convertible, engine, and went out at found it, I also listened to my heart and my gut alot. I did find my vette on ebay, close enough, 3 hour drive, to go to it, knew it was the one, enough said.
For what it is worth, you might consider spending more for a vette then what you plan, get a nice driver, and drive it, enjoy it, and work on it while you can drive it, cuz if you get bite by the vette bug it will just eat you up having one you can't drive, besides if you figure out or labor or others, parts and repairs. you just might find it cheaper to spend more up front, and that my friends is the rest of the story, preacher man Larry signing off. good night john boy...................
Great advice...
And sorry about the confusion guys...I thought I was being asked to stop posting about this.... Has anyone thought that maybe these bids are too low and the sellers just wont part w/ their cars?? One of them is a 1979 L82, super clean (awesome pics) w/ 97k miles onit...the highest bid is only 4k w/ only a day left to go in the auction....you guys think that if it doesnt hit much higher numbers the guy just wont part w/ it??? In that case wouldnt it make more sense to put the starting bid alot higher??? The start was only $2500....I'm confused and frustrated...
ebay are just the "starting" bids, and that there may
actually be "reserves" which are somewhat higher.
Welcome to the site ! ...Chris from down under.

If I was looking for a good fixer but also daily to 3 days driveable. I would look between '73 to '82. Uless you love LT-1's or big blocks.
They all should be in the budget from $25K's to $8K's. Again depends on how they look, drive and mechanicly mantained.
