The first couple of numbers are wrong arent they it should be 1z37

I want to make sure the block is the origianl first then go from there.

A 72 coupe would have a VIN of 1Z37K2S500001-1Z37K2S527004. A vert would have a 6 in the third position instead of a 3. Info from NCRS Pocket Spec Guide, page 6.

Hey Christo, where are you buying it from?

There's some shady customers in Oz when it comes to performance sports cars.  The last three digits of the engine code don't seem right either.  71s have a similar power plant and there ain't no CKX in the codes.  It may have a replacement engine.   The only code for 71s ending in an "X" is the BB 425HP auto trans version.

If you listen to the guys on this site they will definately steer you in the right direction.

CKX = 1976 model, L-48, 180hp 350, with auto trans. (If it is actually a Vette engine)
You do not have the complete VIN listed here. What you have is the last 5 numbers of the vin.(16423), and the engine code & build date.

More info would be very helpful. You need the complete VIN number off of the tag on the windshield. If the seller doesn't want to give that info, I would run away.

Vette(s): #1 -1969 Corvette Coupe Riverside Gold, black interior,MN,A/C,350/350,PS,PB,window cranks. #2 -2000 C5, black/black, 6 sp, Bose system & lots of buttons.

I would RUN too if the seller won't give you the VIN.  That is a big RED FLAG!

In '72 they had a suffix CKX -350ci, 200hp automatic

hi and thanks to all

He gave me the vin numbers 1z37k2s516423

soo, would it then be a match for the motor?

The vette is in Sydney.

Had alot to say, bought it off ebay USA, not what was claimed to be when it arrived.

I think I should run from it after looking at some pics, has had a big massive hit on the front end, the body shows some light or hair line cracks, but where the sway bar mounts to on both sides of the chassis has broken away on both sides.

Maybe re chassis but would you do that?

price is $17000. AD   doesnt start plus it needs trim kit, paint, one door etc, etc

I would like to hear what you guys think

Thanks

Vette(s): 1980 L-48 still in the middle of a frame-off.
I would pass on that one. You might find a lot of hidden damage that can drive the repair costs up significantly. Keep looking there are a lot of sharks out there.

Corvettes and women are the same...You want to make love to them but they keep breaking down.

Vette(s): 1972 conv., sunfire yellow, blk interior, blk vinyl and convertible top. Off frame restoration with American Speed 383 stroker engine producing 500hp plus a 200hp NOS system. MSD ignition. Hooker super competition headers with chambered exhaust.

I would think 12,600 US $$ is way to much to pay for the car in the condition that you have described.

It sounds as though the car might have major frame issues and I can tell you from experience, frames aren't cheap, especially since you would have the added expense of shipping to Australia.

I agree with Dennis. I think I would pass on this one. Good Luck!!

First, it is priced at least 3 times higher than it is worth. Sounds like it would need a frame swap at a minimum. I would run as fast as possible from it.
