Vette(s): 71 Coupe Black on Black

Run away from it mate.  There are plenty of dealers in Oz who will give you a good deal and that one sounds really bad.  Way too cheap for a 72.  If you are looking for a decent vehicle of that era you will be looking in the $25K to $30K region and even then you will need to go over it with a fine tooth comb.  Be really careful also if it's been converted to right hand drive.  Make sure you get all the engineers certs and really check the mods to any fibreglass.  Most states allow you to run with LHD anyway but in some you will need to carry a permit.  Some you will need to plaster a big sign on the back saying "Caution Left Hand Drive" which really pisses me off.  Not in NT though.  "Joes Golden Gasolines" in Adelaide always have Vettes for sale but you will have to talk them down in price.  They won't BS you about matching numbers cars though.  Most they import are from Arizona or California so rust is not usually a problem.  Mainly sun damage and most of that is paint and interior trim.  They always get mechanically good cars in.  There's plenty of clubs in Oz who will point you in the right direction as well.

It really just depends what you are after.  My 71 is the bees knees although I have some major engine work to do at the moment.  But a 350 Chev is still a 350 chev no matter if it's from a Vette or not.  All my numbers match, that's why i'm spending the time to have the original block fixed.  The nose on mine has been replaced and it has had a minor bingle in the rear right corner but nothing that has not been repaired well.  Frame and mechanicals are great for a 35 year old.  Not the original colour but I prefer black anyway.

Best of luck in finding what you are after.

Thanks guys

Yeah i think its better to let this one go too.

I already have a LHD 73 vette half way through rebuild, new front clip etc etc, but numbers dont match so its going to get a pretty hot motor.

Next one has to be matching and nice undamaged body, dont mind rebuilding it back to original as long as base is good to begin with LHD too. I have delt with Joe and he seems like one of the better ones too.

One Aussie dealer has a vertable vette claming its a 71, but the rear end is a 68. So 68 rear 71 front claming all original $25500.

Anyway thanks for your help guys regards chris.

Yep, I agree with the rest of the group.......let it go.  I would also let the '71 go too.  If your wanting a number matching car, just be patient and you will find it.

Have you been looking on Ebay??
