I know there is a website that will give you a close approximation of the "birthdate", but I don't remember the address right now.

Welcome to the Shark Tank, Morten!!
If you open the driver's door, on the front edge of the cowl area, there will be a metal tag riveted there. The production date is on this tag. In the upper, right hand corner, there will be a letter, followed by one or two numbers. The letter is the MONTH of production, and the numbers are the DAY of production.
EXAMPLE : A27 would be : January 27th     B9 would be Feburary 9th
The months are A(January) thru L(December)
Hope this helps!

Hi

When i open the driver´s door and look at the metal tag i can see the number i21 as in April 21, but that date is when the care is produced, That date i will like to know is the date of registration(1 date with licence plate on), because if i dont have that date, then will tax dep. set the car as old as posible(12/31/2006) and i will not get it to low fees before 2007...( standing in my garage in another year, without driving it)

Let me give you an example

under 35 year 180% in fees --- over 35 year 40% fees         &n bsp;         &n bsp;         &n bsp;         &n bsp;         &n bsp;

The car is from 71" and it must be 35 years old to get low fees 1971+35=2006, but when i dont have the 1 registration date(not produktion date) they will set the car to 12/31/2006 and not 05/21/2006. or whatever date is has been sold... So instad to pay 27500 dkr, they will have 74800 dkr. and that is a BIG different.

So i hope that you can help me

Best Regards Morten Larsen

The build date is as close as you're going to get without a complete history on the car. Unless you can locate the original owner who can produce the initial registration or paperwork from the selling dealer, like the MSO, it's almost impossible, Dealers typically don't retain those records. Privacy acts will not permit states to make previous registration histories available. I've tried on my car.

Yeah, that's gonna be next to impossible to determine, without the original owner input, or documentaton.
That's really weird the way they do that over there!

More clear in Belgium ! With all cars there's a registration card from the 1 day put on the road . A new owner gets a new card ( with his license number ) , date of issue AND always repeating the date of the 1 day on road. So the only thing we can't see is how many owners the car "survived" .

Other problem can be that if there's no registration card OR you don't know the former licence plates it is nearly impossible to registrate .

Old-timers ( almost no taxes and 1/2 insurance rate ) are in Belgium possible from 25 years old. Every year a normal technical inspection.

Without technical inspection you can get a license plate beginning with O ( oldtimer) , almost no insurance costs but limited use : sundays , limited miles from home except meetings and no driving in the dark.

Mine is tech. inspected ( only a remark on the side pipes.... )  so i don't have to be at home during day-light.....

see you !

Hello all.

That´s not good news, so i have to try with the produktion date and hope they will accept that, or else i have to pay , cant wait any longer to get on the road

The rules in Belgium are much the same as in Denmark, there has the car to bee 35 years to get old timer status, but after that the car only has to bee inspected every 8 year, and almost no insurance costs but limited use 6000km and not daily drive.

In the end i will thanks all of you for your help, to take your time to answer my question...

Thanx Morten Larsen

Hallo Morten,

hope you can figure it out with your tax department. Understand fully that waiting another year is extremely difficult having such a beauty !I sure would be on the road....( by the way , what engine do you have in it ? ).

I see your car in front of sailing boats ? your hobby or coincidense ? Because i'm building a sailing boat ( for 12 years now.... ) and hope this year will be the final.... and in the water at Blankenberge !

see you !

Norbert
