The title and the door state a, "0" but like I say the vin plate shows different? It seems that all documentation on the car ( I have it all ) points to the "0" factor. All the numbers on the car have been ran and are matching except for this on the vin plate? The car was produced on 10/30/78. Well, it was almost Halloween and, it could have been a Friday then? maybe it was the last one before the Company party? OR THE NEXT ONE AFTER!!! I Dunno! c3 owner #10645 197938712.9476273148

It's possible that it is a mis-stamp, but it could be a problem later on down the road, if a Trooper ever questions it.

I have even re-registered, transfered the title and plated the car with no difficulty what-so-ever. But,This ain't Texas either!! Some of the procedures and the fact that people don't have any pride in thier work anymore are not possibly as efficient as they could be! Which in turn, could cause me some problems if they were!!! In which case, I could tell them, It's a,square "0"!c3 owner #10645 197938708.0223958333

I almost put nostalgic or antique plates on it but, I like to go to the shows and meets to much for that noise. she's a nice daily driver not a show car.( to store it, is to waste it!), Drive those Vettes kids!!!(except in the Winter months),(we don't need any more tail lights for sale!) Plus ya can only go so many miles a year on those type of plates.  Not only that, they are very un-attractive, as to a custom plate. c3 owner #10645 197938708.5324189815

I would venture to say that it more than likely is,for (what-ever) reason a mis-stamp on GM's end. (they just love to mess with us Corvette people!) Whats wierd though is, I can use the vin decoder on the site and type in the vin with either a "0" or a "D" and get the same results? I'll just except it for now. thanks guys for all your help!!!!!!!!! c3 owner #10645 197938707.8649074074

What I would really like to find in conjunction with the parts for my car, would be the owners of the cars, the cars themselves (or both) made, before, (10644) and after mine, (10646)!! Of course, knowing my luck, one of the cars would be the, (one 1979) that, Peter-Stupid A**- Max has stuck in the parking garage in New York!!! I've been thinking about how to resolve that ,(no place for the tennants of the condos to park) problem, here's one solution, (NCM 2 C3VR " The New Additions"!!! Rescued, Restored and Resurrected!!!),(Given with clear titles to the good folks at, C3 Registry for their un-dying devotion to preserving and protecting America's only true sports car!!!   I really don't like that guy or people like him,(Peter Max, not you Adam, we all know here at, C3VR you rock!!!) what a waste of beautiful cars, and automotive history, you know, Zora Duntov would turn over in his grave if he were to see these cars in their present condition!!!!! If your reading this and have the same views as I do, and or, would like to see Uncle Guido take Peter Max out for a little ride, then it's official, (you too, are a Corvette nut!!!)  Just gabbin', Type to you, guys and gals later, (I'm tired!!!) That, Peter Max thing wears me down, and makes me wanna do, baaaaaaaaaad things to him!!! c3 owner #10645 1979 Joe c3 owner #10645 197938712.947962963

Hi, guys and gals of c3vr. HERE'S SOME SHARK-FOOD FOR THOUGHT!!

Here's a wild update on my vin plate, (type-"0") issue. I have done some extensive research on this subject in the past week and ,discovered through friends in St.Louis who turned me on to some, die-hard gear heads, (ex-gm employees),(retired now),(other friends and parents of friends.),(and uncle bob's dog and it's puppies, (3rd. generation of course.) that used to work at the, St. Louis plant.(around that era). The stamping machine according to them, would always need to be watched closely because, after a period of time the dies that punch the numbers and letters on the vin plates would get worn down, or smashed from the impact of the punch and or the, constant repetition. Here's the, ANSWER, they indicated that on occasion the numbers and or letters would be, SUBSTITUTED and other letters or numbers that were so closely similar were used instead!, like a, "D" in place of an,"0"!! (not really detectable unless, really examined closely by quality control dept.!! (this was not, gm procedure),( this was a workers on the line thang, to hit the, production numbers quota!!) to compensate bad or worn dies that were used in place of the, worn down die set until a replacement arrived!!! For myself, this is all fine and good but, what a pain it has been to get this far in finding out the, (TYPE "0") discrepency!!! Maybe, I should, re-name my Vette, how's, (TYPE "0") sound!!! It kinda sounds, EXOTIC doesn't it??? P.S. Thanks to all, for your help on this issue!! YOU WERE RIGHT, JOEL!!! It's a, Mis-Stamp!!, We have a winner!!! c3 owner #10645 1979/Joe Chaney

So now, that the truth is out about this issue, Finally!!! and no one else, Thus-Far anyway,,, has experienced or seen this before. I have to think, does this, increase the value of the car or, decrease the value being a, factory substitute for the correct number or letter since there is, after-all, no way of even being able to determine how much more or less value would be added or lost!!! pertaining to this area of the car!  c3 owner #10645 197938712.9472222222
