This is my vin# xxxxxxxx1D645  What I'm wondering is, 2 things,(1), What does the "D" represent? Is this a code letter for, "0" or possibly, the # 4?? as in,( A=1, B=2, C=3, or, D=4 etc.? )
Hmmmm! I Dunno!  Any help on this would be appreciated!!!!

    And (2), Does anyone  possibly know where I can find the, big plastic CASING that fits in the dash that the speedo / tach, and the printed circuit board (thin sheet,plastic on the back) actually mount to? I've contacted Eckler's tracking system for used parts on 12/21/05 but, have not gotten a response yet. I know from attending shows and swap meets that this is a very rare thing to locate in useable condition! I'm not sure what the part would cost once found but, I don't care about the price,(we have Vettes,what's to much,)(oh, is that all, So!) I would just like to aquire this part so that the speedo and tach don't move inside this CASING within the dash! (due to a, plastic mounting stud/post being broken,so it can't be securely held down in place, cause un-known.),(Indiana roads, there's a thought!!!)

                                       Thank You, ALL!!!!!

Thats ok! Trying to find out this information has been going on for 2 yrs.now for me. I'll keep persuing it though because it's interesting enough to know for sure what it's all about. I have been on and around Vettes for years and have never encountered this before! But, I do again appreciate you taking the time to evaluate and investigate the subject for me !!!!!! I love your web site and will be joining soon!!! The Holidays have me tapped out at the moment, Plus, I just put a new set of sneakers (tires) on my girl at, $500.00 B.F.Goodrich radial t/a, p-255-60r-15's. And am currently putting on,4 new calipers,4 new rotors,and all new pads including e-brake.(Corvettes like presents too!!) at least that's what I keep telling my wife! Thanks, Eckler's, so I've spent $1, 236.00 in a week, not including the tires! But that's ok it's only money and we can't take it with us, but I've often wondered if we could take our Vettes instead?  I love Winter. NOT!!!!! Great project though. Next is the interior package and leather seats pre- installed on the foam. Then after that, a new paint job!!!!But till then, that's the scoop for now.
                                                           Thanks, Again for caring

1Z = Chev. Corvette
87 = Coupe
8 = L48 engine
9 = year model ('79)
S = St. Louis assy
410645 = sequence(VIN)#. Built in early Nov. 1978

Look again... the"D" is probably a "0". Some of the fonts made a "square" 0.

As far as the dash panel for the speedo/tach, I think most aftermarket vendors have them. Check with some of the sponsoring vendors here. (Bair's, Mid America, etc.)

Paragon Vintage might have a good used one.
I've had really good dealings with Zip Products, on some really nice used, original parts for my '74.Adams' Apple38707.8153935185

No luck, It's a, "D" magnify-n' glassed it just to be sure my 40 yr. old eyes were not trippin'. I'll check out (Bair's, Mid America, etc.) & Paragon Vintage to see if they carry the part. HOPEFULLY! Thaks again!!

What does the title have on it? And the sticker on the door? I have never seen, or heard of a "D" in any 'Vette(Shark) vin.

This is kinda off the subject of the vin issue but, I noticed your located in Duncanville,Texas. That's ironic because I am originally from Houston, Texas. I moved to Indiana on a transfer with Sony/Digital Audio Disc Corp. in 1985.(been here ever since with the same job and Company.) Now that I have aquired the Vette I sure miss all the decent weather ALL the time except for, the occasional frog strangler rain storms! the people, and last but not least, THE FOOD!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE GO TO PAGE 2 FOR UPDATES, AND THE REASON FOR THE, "D" IN THE VIN NUMBER!!
