Welcome nice country you are living in. Tell us a little about your car? How did you come by it what are looking at getting done with it?
Hi Everyone,
Thank you very much! I appreciate the nice welcome. So I have a great story about the Corvette! :) I just purchased it on Saturday. I am a pretty avid auto restorer but generally have always focused on vintage military 4x4's primarily old dodge Power Wagons. Anyways, last Friday night I'm surfing through Craigslist and come across a cryptic ad about a corvette needing paint and maintance. I call the guy and speak with him briefly about the car. Mind you, I am not well versed in Corvetts but the price was in the range I wanted to pay $4,800 and I liked the amount of work that needed to be done to get the car fixed up. So Saturday I drive 2 1/2 hours from Auburn, to San Andreas to see the car. Of course I brought my trusty car trailer and a pocket full of money. Very nice guy and his wife. Second owners of the car. Purchased it in 1979 from the original owner. The wife drove it from 1979 - 1993 approximately. Car was parked in a garage and for the most part forgotten about except centimental thougts. The care is a manual 4 speed with upgraded 350 option and it has roll up windows. Interior is in excellent shape. So I told the guy I would buy it and take great care of the car and it would be in good hands and always kept indoors as it should. :) I've already ordered all the little goodies it needs to get it back on the road. I'm planning on getting the car painted in its original mistic silver paint. I'm really excited about the car and look forward to driving it a lot and meeting a lot of great corvette friends with it.
So should I keep the original mags on it or get original ralley wheels? Right now I think the mags are somewhat desireable and I kind of whant to keep them on the car. From what I've heard, back in their day they were quite popular as a corvette upgrade. What do you think?
Thanks,
Brian
P.S. thanks for the warm welcome! :)
Welcome to the C3VR family, Brian (Cruzrkid).
Looks like a good project that you have... I know you will enjoy it. Be sure and post pictures to keep us all up on how it is going.

You are very welcome and sounds like you got a nice addition to the family. Couple of hints I found when I received my car as a present from the wife 5 years ago and stumbled onto this web site.

Great bunch of guys some with amazing knowledge and some of us a lot weaker in that department but with specialized knowledge gained as we repaired our cars.

When posting divide your questions into smaller multiple posts if they differ in areas. You will get better responses. Most of us pick and choose what we read based on the subject line it is no different here.

Replace your tires before you drive it much. Corvettes dislike blowouts and tires that have been sitting are prime candidates for them. A front or rear tire blowout will take a good deal of fiberglass off of the side of your car. It has happened more than once to members. You do not want it to happen to you.

When you want to fix your car it really depends on what you want to do. I have a 82CE and it was hard for me to decide to restore or change. I compromised a little as I kept the wheels (rims) but put on a set that I think looks of better. If I sell it I will sell the originals with it. My car, like yours most likely is, was mechanically was almost all original. Keeping it numbers matching make it resale higher but again that is your personal choice. I did not purchase it to fix and sell. I think it may be worth $25k when I’m done and I will have about $27k in it so it is for fun not profit.

Hey Brian, you came within 10 mi. of me ( Valley Springs ) while purchasing the vette. I hadn't seen that car around but then I don't get out all that much ( fuel costs ). I was up in Rocklin just the other day visiting another C3VR member. It would be great to have more members locally. This is a great group of folks here. Lots of friendly vette people and unequaled amounts of vette info. We hope you'll find what you're looking for here and stick with us. ....I'd keep the wheels until your sure you can't live without something else, Lord knows there'll be plenty of issues to gobble up your vette funds in the near future. Let the good times roll. Please make yourself at home here on the forum. Some great and helpful people check in here daily.
